Brown Leaves, Ground Fall

You were the leaves that I rode on our tree branch,
I was the water that evaporated to meet you,
Long enough to hold me, you embraced me,
Current feelings of beauty made me think the leaves would not fall.

But I held you more tightly, made things
To perfectly adhere you to our branch,
The leaves slowly changed until they turned yellow,
Perceived as a happy color, but I realized you were turning brown.

I held onto you tightly, not wanting you to wither,
But you were turning dark brown and dry,
I still tried to squeeze the leaves for more water,
But you let go of our branch, and I got caught.

We fell onto the ground with the other
leaves,
While there were leaves that already fell before us, watching
I realized that you were just delivering me,
Taking me where I truly belong.
