"It's karaoke night!!" Riri sang as she barged into my room, making me roll my eyes at her excitement.

"Please, give us more excitement." I responded sarcastically as I struggled to get my thick hair into the ponytail holder.

"Don't be a party pooper."

She frowned at me through the mirror while plopping herself down on my bed.

Karaoke night was a part of our summer routine, almost everyone from school shows up to the bar and we have drinks and sing karaoke.

I'm pretty sure it was Riri's favorite part of the whole summer because she loved to sing terribly in front of everyone while drunk.

"So sorry." I mumbled under my breath, growing frustrated with my hair.

"See, that's what happens when you roll your eyes at my excitement." She laughed before walking over to me and grabbing the ponytail holder from my hand, throwing my hair into it almost effortlessly.

And this is why I love her.

"Okay, let's go." I demanded, hopping up from the floor and walking out of the room to meet Mallory and Shuri who were sitting on the barstools, looking awkward.

"Finally." Mallory yelled out in the most dramatic way possible, making us all roll our eyes as we made our way out of the door.

Shuri was our designated driver for the night and I sat beside her in the passenger seat controlling the music while Riri and Mallory sat in the back, screaming every song that played to the top of their lungs.

They were a little too ready for tonight.

The summer air blew through the windows and the sun was beginning to set, lighting the sky up with the prettiest yellow and orange. The closer we got to the city, the louder it got and the more traffic we encountered.

I couldn't help but feel grateful for the moment, and sad knowing that it wouldn't always be like this.

The feeling of Shuri's hand on my knee broke me from my thoughts, making me look over at her to find her eyes already on me.

"You okay?"

I nodded, giving her a small smile.

"What's going on here?" Mallory asked, inserting herself onto the arm rest, pointing backwards and forwards between Shuri and her hand that was still resting on my knee.

I couldn't help but laugh when she let out a sigh, slowly removing her hand from me.

Mallory was going to make sure we didn't end up back together.

"We're here!!" Riri squealed the moment we parked, hopping out of the car before Shuri even had a chance to put it in park.

"I've never seen her so happy about something." Shuri whispered to me.

"Oh, this is just the beginning. It gets worse." I responded laughing before exiting the passenger side.

It was still kind of early, but there was already so many people. All of the lights were low, except for the ones that surrounded the stage, setting the mood.

We managed to find a table for the four us, grabbing it before anyone else had the opportunity to, and that's when the night started.

Shots were coming back to back and music blared through the speakers as people took turns singing into the microphone. Some of them sounding absolutely terrible and others sounding amazing.
