Dyson
We returned home after a few days at the cabin. And we managed to keep Brady's identity a secret from Dad.
During that time, my dad and I came to an understanding. I was better off living with Gertie and Gabby than at home. I agreed since we got along better.
Leaving home was the best thing to ever happen to me. It helped me grow up and realize not everyone has a family that cares about them.
Grammy also beckoned me to Grandpa's house. She wanted to meet the girl that tamed my stupid ass—her words, not mine.
This brings us to our current situation as Gabby, and I walked into Grandpa and Nana's house. Decker and Dixon were already there with Kenzie and Brady. Our relationship wouldn't be official without Grammy's stamp of approval.
"So, you're my booboos' significant others." Grammy looked Kenzie, Brady, and Gabby up and down.
"Yes, ma'am," Brady said.
Kiss ass.
"Is something wrong with you?" Grammy asked Brady.
Decker, Dixon, and I snickered.
"Excuse me?" Brady gave Grammy a sideways glance.
"No one in this family calls us ma'am or sir. Because no one has any damn manners." Grammy threw her hands in the air.
We roared with laughter because it was true. If we weren't harassing each other, we were beating the hell out of each other.
"Ma, can you give the poor guy a break?" Grandpa asked.
"Matthew, I shared a womb with four other people. They didn't give me a break in utero. Why should I give a break to others?" Grammy shrugged.
"It's not our fault the aunts and uncle gave you a hard time."
"No, but you get to deal with it." Grammy smirked.
Grandpa shook his head.
"Let's sit and talk." Grammy gestured to the couches and chairs.
We sat around the living room. Grandpa helped Nana bring in refreshments to us.
"So, tell me a little about yourselves," Grammy told Kenzie, Brady, and Gabby.
"I'm a senior in high school and work at the bakery," Kenzie said.
"I'm a server at the Eatery," Brady said.
Liar.
"I work in the lab at the police station and attend college," Gabby said.
"Interesting." Grammy sipped her hot cocoa.
"Interesting, as in good or bad?" Dixon asked.
"Good, since your significant others work with family, especially my parents' bakery." Grammy smiled.
"Wait. Your parents owned the bakery?" Gabby asked.
"Yep. Ma and Dad opened it after they graduated college and got married. It's been in our family for years. Lex is getting to retire and hand it over to Pax."
"I love their baked goods," Gabby gushed.
"The bakery has been through changes since it had two fires."
Gabby and Kenzie's brows lifted in surprise.
"What do you mean?" Brady asked.
"Ma and Dad had an issue with someone from their past. The person set the bakery on fire. The second time Parker thought he had knocked a candle over. The fire chief ruled it an electrical fire. The bakery has been through hell and back, but it's still standing. It has the same resilience as the Gray and Harper family," Grammy said.
