I rushed into the bakery's kitchen, tossed my stuff onto a chair, and grabbed an apron. Decker looked at me like I was on crack.

"What?" I tied my apron behind me.

"What's wrong with you?"

"I had to race from school to get here before I was late."

"It's better than being late." Decker quirked his brow.

I rolled my eyes. "You're an ass."

"No, I have an ass, which I'm sitting on."

"Cute." I made a face at him and walked over to the table. "You don't seem so snarky today. What's up?"

"I spoke with my grandfather the other day."

"Did he give you any sage advice?"

"He told me to grow up."

"Quick and to the point. I like your grandpa already." I smirked.

"You're not helping."

"No, I'm not enabling your victim mentality, which you have none."

"I'm not a victim."

"No, you act like one. My brother ran away from home. Oh, woe is me." I placed my arm across my chest and acted like a damsel in distress. "Someone, help me from this disastrous event that I created."

Decker glared at me. I lowered my arm and snickered. He was such an easy target.

"Cute." Decker rolled his eyes.

"Then stop moping about your idiot brother."

No matter what Decker said, I wouldn't feel sorry for him. He needed a reality check and a swift kick in the ass.

Why do I get stuck working with someone who busts my balls? Does God hate me that much?

My phone range. While Kenzie mocked me, I answered it. "Hello?"

Decker?

"Dyson."

Kenzie stopped and looked at me.

I got your message.

"You did? I figured you were blowing me off."

I was.

"That's reassuring."

I needed time to think.

"So, you moved out? How is that helpful?"

I needed space from everyone.

"It doesn't mean we don't miss you."

Yeah, I got that from the billion messages you and everyone else left me.

"Dyson, come home."

Not yet.

I cleared my throat. "Ah, when?"

When I'm ready. I'll talk to you soon. Dyson disconnected the call.

"Well, that went well," Kenzie said.

I shook my head and got to work.

My brothers didn't get it. They wanted me home but didn't understand why I couldn't come home. I wasn't ready to see my dad. What don't they get?

I carried tools to the shed and closed the door when I noticed that asswipe standing there. "Can I help you?"
