I SIGNED THE LAST BOX AND SWIFTLY SHUT THE THICK STACK OF PAPERS THAT had been handed to me. I could feel his smirking, pathetic eyes on me and it took so much to not turn around and whack the expression right off. The image was so vivid that that I couldn't help but let out a snicker that wiped the smirk off his face. Grapping my arm, teeth grinding he proceeded to drag me down the corridor. I took some pleasure in his annoyance but then I remembered why I was being released and my smile dropped.
My mate or my sister. My forever or my own blood. How could I possibly decide between the two? Nikki was my little sister, she was my responsibility and whom I loved more than anyone else that is until I met my mate. But Belle she was human and therefore even more vulnerable; I hated to think what they were doing to her. I hadn't known her for long but I couldn't imagine life without her. My head ached as the decision pressed down heavily.
I barely acknowledged his tightening grip as we passed gate after gate: my mind troubled by more important things. He released me with a push which sent me flying into the side of a parked car having not been concentrating.
"Get in the car." He ordered, raising his eyebrows when I delayed doing so. Rolling my eyes I yanked at the door handle and slid in, pulling it shut behind me. Staring straight through the windscreen I didn't glance sideways as he started up the engine and smoothly moved up through the gears as he increased the speed. As we drove away from the place that captivated my body and then my heart, I rolled down the window inhaling that woody fresh smell. I tried to discern my mates scent from many and grew frustrated when I couldn't.
"Are you going to hang your head out the window as well, little doggy and stick your tongue out?" He remarked snidely but I refused to respond, closing my eyes and breathing even deeper.
"Where to?"
I hesitated briefly undecided about what I was going to do, where I was going to go.
"Where to wolfie, times a ticking?"
"West on the next road," I muttered as if in defeat but secretly my mind was whirring, trying to figure out what I was going to do.
We got onto the main road and I witnessed his love of speed as his foot pressed down even more. I'm not saying that I didn't appreciate it as well but I preferred being in control of it, certainly not in the hands of a human whose reflexes where substantially slower. Overtaking multiple cars recklessly showed me what kind of man he was and how I could use that against him. I would survive nearly anything but a crash for him could leave his body just that a body. I needed to be free of him, that I knew. I didn't know what I would do when I was free but first things first.
"I thought humans were stupid before but you are just unbelievable. Do you think they will let you live once you deliver me and my sister to them? You're just expendable to them. A way of getting what they wanted. I'm surprised they would sink this low but hey they have no honour."
I watched out of the corner of his eye as his grip on the steering wheel tightened to the point where his knuckles shone white through his overly stretched skin.
"Shut up, you don't know anything."
Chuckling at the defensive tone that had slipped into his voice, I grinned as I could see his attention straying.
"Oh don't I. Tell me, what did they promise you? Money, women what?"
"I can have any woman I want!" He said snippily as if I struck a nerve.
"Of course you can. You can't even drive well for a human," I said quietly but just loud enough that he could hear as I turned away.
Our speed increased and the car began weaving at an increasingly erratic rate.
