EZRA
"Have a good christmas break, Mr. Miller," Collin tells me and I wish him the same as he leaves my office after having lunch here for the fourth time this week, as much as he's a messy eater. Collin helped me with getting the address of Rachel's childhood house in North Carolina. I spent the rest of my shift trying to find the earliest flight which is tomorrow morning at four in the morning. I rub my face in frustration but if I leave work now, I can probably start packing my stuff.
...
The next day comes along, my neck is still killing me from sleeping in the backseat overnight since I spent a good amount of money to fly on a plane for seven hours that smelled like fuel and cheap yet nasty airplane food; but it gives me memories of when I met Rachel... I mean when I used Rachel for something so idiocy like a deal. After getting off the plane, I immediately called a cab so I could go to the store to buy some flowers, her favorite, sunflowers. Moments later, the cab comes up, I tell the driver to go to the nearest store and he nods okay.
I get to the store, it's completely packed since Christmas break is this week with hearing little kids screaming at the top of their lungs. Fucking Jesus, please get my ass out of this store before I go crazy, I think as walking towards the sunflowers and grab a bouquet to quickly pay them. As I walk to the self checkout, I see someone familiar by the self checkout next to me until I notice it's Wyatt, Rachel's ex, I can tell it's him by his slim jim body. I pay for my stuff in a hurry and follow him out of the store.
"HEY!" I yell out as he looks over his boulder but doesn't acknowledge me. This son of a bitch, "HEY! I'm talking to you," I go up to him, and he shrugs his shoulders and gets back to putting his groceries in his truck. Suddenly, all this anger takes over me to slam his face on his car and blood comes running down his nose, "WHAT THE FUCK?! What's your problem?" he asks as grabbing onto his bloody nose.
"You almost broke my nose–" he yells back as lifting a fist and drives it into my left eye. Seconds later, I tackled him and punched every function and bone in his face. God this feels good after a few more punches until I feel someone pulling me off of him, and just my luck it's a cop, "Hey! Hey! Get off of him, would you gentleman like to tell me why you guys were fighting right in the middle of a public area?" the officer asks as pulling my arms behind as one of his hands grabs a pair of cuffs, "I was just minding my own business then he just started punching me, office, I mean dad,".
Motherfucker, I'm going to get arrested by this punk's dad, "I was trying to confront your son of sexual assault his ex girlfriend," I bark out as tweety dumb and his father tweety dumber father look at each other and start laughing, "Son I don't know what you are talking about. My son would never do such a thing," he assumes, pats Wyatt on the shoulder.
"That's bullshit!" I say and the officer tightens the cuffs probably cutting off the blood, "Watch it, pal! Do you talk to me at the police station?". Oh no, that's the last place I need to be, especially with my record with the police, "No, no. I'm staying at... umm" I chock up. At the police station to rot in there like a piece of old bread," Wyatt jokes with a stupid on him. I need to punch him and that smirk right now but I stare him down, look over at the officer, "I meant to say that I'm staying at the Carsons' house," I tell him, and he sighs when he uncuffs me, "Wait! What! He almost broke my nose and you are letting him off that easily?" Wyatt whines, pointing his fingers at me.
"Listen son, I'm not letting you off that easily but with a warning. I better not see you in any sort of trouble, understand?" he asks me, I nod and pick my flowers that are basically murder with bended flowers and walk towards my car with this black eye. This will be a story to tell Rachel.
...
When I'm halfway away to Rachel's house as using the shitty GPS on my phone, I'm trying to make plan or a explanation to Rachel and her parents of why I'm coming to their house unannounced, unknown and, pretend that I'm not some tattooed punk ass who took their perfect picture daughter and destroyed her when I am.
"Your distraction is on your right," the annoying GSP lady say, I turn the wheel to see the blue mailbox saying "The Carsons', in front of a white two storied house; I park my car next to the curb, grab the flowers and key and start walking towards the door with nervous chills and sweat all over of me. I'm not meeting the girl's parents type. I'm nobody's type. But I knock the door and ring the doorbell, immediately a dog starts barking throughout the house. Seconds later, a small brown dog runs out of the house and chases a squirrel, "Buster get back here," a sweet voice calls the dog but it's too late.
I look at her, hold in my laugh as I see her bunny slippers, "It's okay, darling," I tell her, her eyes meet mine and she takes a big swallow of shock, "Ezra?" she steps out, closes the door, "What are you doing here? And what happens to your lip and eye? Let me guess you got in a fight?" she asked question after question which I don't blame her, "It wasn't a fight. It was mostly a disagreement," I lie and I can, she's not believing me from arching her brow up so I hand her the bended flowers, these are for you," I say as she takes them, turns around and opens the door.
"Rachel? Why are you walking away?".
"Why are you here?".
"Answer my question first,".
"I'm freezing cold, and going inside,", she says, opens the door then looks at me, "Coming in?".
I see a slight smile on her face, open the door a little and quietly walk behind her. I look around the house to notice some of her school pictures behind the front door, "Cute," I comment on them, "Thanks. Now why are you here?".
"I wanted to see you," I say to her, and she rolls her eyes when going upstairs and I follow her. When we are in her bedroom, she pulls me inside, and shuts the door quickly, "Don't touch anything and be quiet," she demands, and rushes towards the bathroom.
I can tell by her silence and expression that she wasn't ready to see or talk to me. I don't blame her. Maybe leaving should be better, I continually think about leaving her room but stop when a small hand reaches mine.
