DEREK MADE GOOD on his promise, keeping Lilith going while she worked on her essays and other application requirements. Though she doubted she would stay in California for college, she filled out her residency application and finished the ivy league applications first, knowing they were a long shot but she just wanted to see if she could get in. The rest weren't due until later in the month, so she decided to focus on the problems at hand first. That being how the hell she was going to survive the nights to come.

While they still had free time, her and Derek were sitting on the couch watching the original Scream movie. They were sat side by side, Derek's arm draped around her shoulders, heads resting together. "Hey," he nudged her, the girl looking up at him sleepily. She grumbled in return, words not coming out coherently. "I was thinking we leave before the sun goes down, just try to get the fuck out of town. I know of a few hotels across the state we could stay in."

"Yeah but can we keep them from cutting the power?" Lilith asked him, not hopeful for the night.

"I have a theory. The Oni are connected to the nemeton, so is the nogitsune, right? None of this started until after you all charged it. So, they're attached to Beacon Hills, they can't leave, but we can," Derek explained his hypothesis, though he could tell the girl in his arms wasn't as hopeful about the plan as he was.

"What if you're wrong? I don't want you to get hurt because of me," she whispered, almost quiet enough that if he was human, he wouldn't have heard.

"I don't care. If I get hurt saving you, it would be worth it. You are worth it," he whispered, kissing her softly. She smiled at him, shaking her head. She kissed him back passionately, Derek wrapping his other arm around her shoulders as well to deepen the kiss.

"Okay, let's get the fuck out of here," Lilith agreed. "But you're not getting hurt for me. We'll just keep driving. It worked last night right?"

"Yeah, we'll just keep driving." But he made no promises to not get hurt because Allison was right. Derek Hale would die for the witch in his arms without hesitation.

Before the sun went down, Derek and Lilith were in the car, already an hour out of town. Lilith drove for the first few hours, telling Derek to get some sleep. Of course, he didn't. He was wide awake, a book in his hands as music played softly through his SUV. She turned it up as Fearless by Taylor Swift came on, a smile forming on Derek's lips while she started singing the song loudly. When they first got in the car, Derek tried to start his only playlist but she wouldn't let them. Her rule: driver chooses the music and passenger shuts his pie hole. He laughed at her, understanding the reference as he pulled out his book. If Derek wasn't going to sleep, Lilith was going to enjoy her music to keep herself awake.

"But you're just so cool, run your hands through your hair, absent mindedly makin' me want you. And I don't know how it gets better than this, you take my hand and drag me head first, Fearless," she sang as Derek glanced up at her from behind his book. Lilith danced the best she could while still keeping the car on the road and in the lines. An easy smile crossed his face, watching her enjoy herself as if she wasn't being hunted and had only gotten an hour of sleep in two days. Derek knew he had fallen in love with her over the summer, but it was then he realised he had never and would never love someone as much as he loved her.
