3rd May 1640
Esthirant, Parlpadia
In the following months, Remille, head of the 1st foreign affairs department and favoured of Emperor Ludius was incessantly confused and worried at the new state of affairs.
Confused, confused that another country had suddenly shown up and began to enforce their own rules, which made no sense.
Sure, they had more power than them both economically and militarily, yet they had not seemed to use other power for anything aside from ensuring their own self-interests had been defended, and not subjugating the world around them when it could have been a simple breeze to do so.
They claimed to honour treaties that ensured the safe treatment of prisoners, and not attacking civilians, whilst having deadly weapons that could wipe out whole villages if they chose to, yet they chose not to use these weapons often, instead using their supposedly 'more humane' weapons.
Worried, worried that the Kingdom of Rhiem, their long-standing rival, or maybe the other kingdoms within their sphere of influence would rebel, already reports of the Europeans reaching out to them had already reached her table, and that there were rumours of a anti-Parlpadia coalition being formed by the surrounding nations of Altaras, Fenn and a few more. Hearing that their tyrannical rule was probably going to end soon, the rebels in the conquered territories where growing more daring by the day, never mind the costs that the Parlpadian subjugation authorities would do.
It was only in places such as Kooze and Martha, had there been true peace and order. They had been the first to be colonised and the previous emperor had initiated a quick spate of colonialism believing it to be their duty to civilise the barbarians, yet some compromise to placate them was required, and so, gave them some concessions for cultural preservation.
That time was sadly long gone. Now, Almost every single territory they had saved for eight was often on the brink, as was the case back home, where public order was often or not a stone's throw from breaking. Perhaps a distraction would be required, and the reforms could wait.
And so, General Maxeleon was ordered to come up with a way to distract the people, and they settled on subjugating the kingdom of Fenn, and conveniently, a casu beli had just appeared, giving a ripe opportunity to initiate the Invasion.
The little peninsular country was always isolationist when it suited them, having long ago expelled traders from foreign regions, designing only to trade with the nearby Principality of Gahara, who General Maxleon had claimed were off-limits for a full-blown invasion for some reason.
Later tacticians and historians would validate, it made some sense. At the time of the invasion, it was a divided country, and the power disparity was clear as night and day, as, after all, most of the Parlpadian muskets and eventually, riflemen, had faster firing rates and tactics as compared to swords, bow and arrows, and arequebus that few of the outer lords had.
It was hoped that first, instead of war, commerce could be used, getting money to the people through trade could placate them. Diplomatic offers were made to the sword king, trade for cessation of support for the coalition.
It was unilaterally rejected by the Fennese, their sword king's second in charge killing the ambassador, who had broken protocol and turned his back for a moment to confer with his advisors on what they should do next, and the marine escort was brutally massacred as the rest of the 'honourable' samurai jumped them before they could get ready.
With this complete fiasco and refusal of the Fennese to at least issue a public apology, anger brewed amongst the Parlpadian population, and even the new class of students and liberal thinkers halted their criticisms of the ruling regime and temporarily joined the calls for action, and once again in years, the Parlpadia people were united in the desire for vengeance for the wrongs committed to them.
