Chancellor's palace

Brussels

2nd January 1640

The previous year passed, and the new year was adopted, alongside that of the calendar. The previous instability and fears began to die down as the food and oil shipments from Qua-Toyne and Quilla meant that the collapse of the European Federation was averted, for now.

The Martial law had eventually been lifted, and rationing was lightened as wheat and grain was brought in, starvation was averted as food was now more readily available.

In turn, embassies had been set up in Maihark and Barat.  European contractors were in the midst of being cleared from quarantine and would sooner or later help to fully rebuild the port of Maihark to increase the delivery output and to stop using the temporary wharfs built by both Qua-Toynians and European engineers, who reported the large scale usage of magic to lift the rocks and meld them together.

It was interesting how quickly things got done, mused the Chancellor, as he idly listened to the presentation from the economist.

"So, Mr Chancellor, in conclusion, the economy struggling but still standing, given how unemployment is low due to the increase in jobs available, and the call-up, joblessness is at a all-time low now. Hopefully, consumer spending will also increase with the stimulus" said a man from the finance ministry

"Alright, thank you, Roderick .Right, Battersby, How is our base construction in Maihark?"

"We got the tenders, and the Health ministry will soon be able to clear them for construction. We were considering to deploy either European Marines or an enforcer corps battlegroup, but upon further consideration, we should probably deploy General Cutting's third army, a battlegroup may not be good enough deterrence if they only see a few hundred men." said General Battersby, as he saw the Chancellor nodding in that regard.

While normally Europe was content to stay within their borders, this was something that probably required their presence , given how giving admission of Qua-Toyne and neighbouring Quilla would have caused both countries to fall apart due to incompatibility on many counts. And so, they would give it a while before a admission into the federation would occur, if it would ever occur.

"If I may, sir, we should get the ministry of health to speed up the quarantine and processing. The intel lads are saying that there has been increased movement of forces towards the border, and the Lourians have been making more inflammatory statements. Intelligence reports that the Qua-Toynian extremists are on the move, secretly rallying, gathering arms and what not." said the general, as the Chancellor nodded.

"Well, I do remember they turned away ambassador Moussa, possibly due to his looks?" he said, as general Battersby nodded.

"Possibly sir, they probably haven't seen anyone of different skin colour in this primitive backwater," said General Julian.

"Well, you're right , I suppose, but still, I do hope we can solve this without conflict first."

"Mr Chancellor, they turned away our ambassador, I don't think they will be too friendly with us." said the general, as the Chancellor nodded.

"Yes, which is why I am authorizing the deployment of the army, general. Make sure you prepare well for any sort of contingency."

"Yes Sir." said General Battersby, as he stood up and saluted.

As the general left, Chancellor Norman could only look out the window at the carefully manicured garden outside.

It seemed that wars was inevitable... hopefully the war would not start yet, the quarantine seemed to be taking forever to finish.
