The boys' hurley unbuckle themselves and run out of the truck. "Grandma, Grandpa." The boys shout as they run out to them. I watch as their grandparents embrace them in a loving hug. Jasper walks up to them and hugs them as well.
"You must be Rosie." Athena smiles. Her white hair blows in the warm breeze, "Come here," She pulls me in for a hug.
I smile at Mark and he says it's nice to meet me. "Well, Jasper, she's a pretty one." He smiles and I blush.
We walk in and Jasper shows Natty, David and I where we are all staying. David helps with our bags as Natty and I look around. I head to see my room and see Jasper unpacking his bag.
"What are you doing?" I smile as I question him. He walks toward me and pulls me in close to him.
"You didn't think that I would stay in the other room by myself did you?" His eyes darken and I see the sinister smile creep along his lips.
I smile and walk away. I find Natty and we step out onto the high rise balcony that overlooks the private beach. The boys run past me in their swim shorts, running down the stairs and head to the water.
"Be careful!" I shout after them.
"Oh they will be fine," I hear Athena behind me.
"I know, I'm just a worry wart when it comes to them." I smile.
"Here, relax," She hands Natty and I a glass of wine. We take a seat and watch the boys playing around.
Athena, Natty and I are in conversation when Jasper walks out in nothing but his swim shorts. His full abs on display while throwing a football. The saying is true, boys are so much hotter in the summer. Natty and I couldn't help but exchange a knowing look, the heat wave outside intensifying my admiration for Jasper. I felt my cheeks redden and a spark of excitement in the air, as if the sun was lighting a flame inside my chest.
"Who wants to play some football?" He asks.
We are urged to go play by Athena. We enter and split up in our rooms. I walk into my guest room and enjoy the lakeside view from the sliding doors. I rummage around in my suitcase until I find my red two-piece. I didn't think about the fact that my red swimsuit would match Jasper's red swim shorts. I change into my bikini and leave the room to meet Natty in the hallway. I adore the blue and white bikini she is wearing. We go outside to the deck and make the decision to apply coconut oil to our entire body so that we can also acquire a lovely tan in the sun. As soon as we step onto the sand, the heat is unbearable; not even standing beneath the deck in the shade provides relief.
Wearing next to nothing, we approach Jasper and David. They both look at us, we could see the surprise on their faces as they took in our attire and Jasper opens his mouth.
"Are you girls trying to give us heart attacks?" His smile shines in the sun as he looks me up and down while spinning the football.
"Maybe," Natty responds.
"Are we going to chit chat or play?" I ask. The competitiveness in me is coming out.
"Let's make this interesting." David suggests.
"What do you have in mind?" I say, always down for a little fun.
"You win, we will do whatever you want for twenty-four hours."
"And if you win?" Natty asks.
"We get what we want." A smile crosses his face.
"Deal!" I put out my hand to shake his as I watch Jasper grin then lick his lips.
"Good luck," Jasper whispers in my ear as he kisses my cheek.
The boys go over the rules and we nod in agreement. Natty and I are on a team. The sun causes me to sweat as we run around in the warm sand. Natty passes me the ball as the sun is in my eyes. I feel myself collide with someone. I catch myself on their outstretched arms that were currently keeping me from hitting the sand head first. "Miss Rosie, are you all right?" I hear a voice ask me with laughter.
I snap my head up as he has a wide grin stretched across my face. "David!" I laugh as he grabs the ball.
I watch his chocolate brown eyes crinkle as his mouth forms into a smile of his own. "Well, that's mine now Miss," He says, dipping his head towards me in a polite manner.
Craning my neck at his large muscled form, I noticed how he created a barrier, protecting me against the sun. I was comfortably cool in his shade.
His mocha colored skin drips with sweat as the sunlight beams down angrily upon him. But he didn't seem to mind one bit! His curly black hair was even more unruly today as it danced in the wind that whips past us. His eyes shimmer and the light that touched his irises turned them from its original color to a soft hazel. He looked wild and carefree. Like he hadn't known a bad day in his life. He smiles once more before running off.
I finally get the ball back and run. Strong arms grip my waist and I know those hands anywhere. I start to laugh as he whispers, "I can't wait for you to lose." I turn to face him, his hands still on my waist. "Oh pretty boy, you'll be on your knees doing what I want when we win," I smile.
"Either way, win or lose, I'll be on my knees doing whatever I want to you." He smiles.
The time spent out in the sun has drained me. The twins joined us but of course they made sure they were on their dad's team. So it was Natty and I against the four boys. Evidently we lost. Jasper smiles at me and I put my head down.
The chilly night air begins to bustle through the air as we move inside. I go to my room, get a knitted sweater, and quickly throw it over my swimsuit before returning to the deck to have dinner. I then assist with cleanup and prepare the boys for bed.
"I love you guys so much," I say to them.
"I love you too," They both simultaneously say.
I close the door and head back out. I look out to the beach to see that the guys had started a fire and had set chairs all around. Athena walks up to me and says,
"He loves you." I turn to face her. "Whatever happened back home, I'm happy you guys worked it out." She smiles at me. "And if he didn't, I would have set him straight. There was no way that witch would be sending my grandbabies to boarding school." I laugh as she speaks.
"Even if it didn't work out between us, I wouldn't let that happen either." I assure her. "I would always be around for those boys. They are my priority."
She looks at Jasper as he looks up at us and smiles. "Well right now your priority is to spend time with that boy. I've got the twins. Go have fun." She hugs me and I walk down the stairs as my feet touch the warm sand. I look over at him as the flames shine against his skin and I melt at just wanting to be in his arms.
