The next morning I wake to Rosie asleep on my chest. I brush her hair out of her face and just admire her for a moment. She stirs and slowly blinks her eyes open, a small smile forming on her lips when she sees me. "Good morning," I whisper, kissing the top of her head. We lay there for a few more minutes, enjoying the peace and quiet of the early morning. But soon enough, the day begins, and we have to get up and start our routine.
We both hop into the shower, and I pull her into my arms. She lays her head on my chest, and I take in her scent. She turns to face me as the water pours over our bodies. We both smile and exchange a few kisses before finishing up and getting dressed for the day ahead. It's a simple moment, but it's one of my favourite parts of the day. Just being close to her and starting the day together sets the tone for everything else. I'm grateful for this moment and for her.
Rosie leaves the room and heads to the kitchen. I follow shortly after. I walk in to see her parents at the table, and I smile. "Buenos días." (good morning) I say.
"Buenos días, Jasper." Her mother walks up to me and kisses my cheek. Her dad nods in my direction, and I return the same notion.
We all sit down to eat the perfect breakfast Rosalie has whipped up. Rosie asks if she can take the truck today to go shopping with her mom and Natty. I nod, take the keys out of my pocket, and hand them to her. She kisses my cheek and thanks me.
I stand up and begin to clear the table.
"Mr. Alveraz, are you ready to go?"
"Sí,"(Yes) he says as he stands.
I kiss my love goodbye and tell her to be safe. "I love you," I whisper.
"I love you." She responds before kissing me once more.
Her father and I make our way out the door and step into the car. We talk about life back in B.C., and he explains how much he has missed his daughter. As he speaks, I can tell how much love he has for her. "Is it true that the asshole has been caught?' He says and I begin to chuckle.
"Yes, it's true." I tell him. I pull up to the building and park. I turn to look at him, saying, "She's safe now."
We head into the office, and I begin to show him around. He nods and asks questions, which I'm happy to answer. As we continue to walk around, I have the feeling he asks me things to see if I'm the right person for his daughter. I can sense his protective nature as a father, and I try my best to make a good impression. I hope that my answers satisfy him and prove that I am worthy of his daughter's love and trust. We head to my office, and he looks around. I ask him to take a seat, and he does as I sit down and pull out a box from the drawer of my desk.
I turn to face him and start talking. "Sir, I'm feeling a little anxious and still unsure of what to say. So if you feel like I'm taking up too much of your time, please be patient." I take a long breath. "As you can see, there is a ring for your daughter inside this box. Rosie is everything to me; she's the love of my life, so it would be a relief if we were on the same side." He turns to face me and signals for me to go on. "She's been by my side ever since the day we met, so you won't have to worry about me treating her badly, I promise. I swore I knew I would say "I do" the moment I laid eyes on her." I look at him. "I want to marry your daughter and make her my wife. For the remainder of my life, I want to only love her. I want to marry your princess and make her my queen."
He looks at me for a moment, then breaks into a wide smile. "You have my blessing," he says. "I can see how much you love her, and that's all that matters to me." Relief floods through me as I thank him, feeling a weight lifted off my shoulders.I had been nervous about asking for his permission, afraid that he would say no and shatter my dreams of spending forever with her. But his acceptance fills me with a sense of joy and excitement that I can hardly contain. I can already picture our future together, building a life filled with love and happiness. I can't wait to start this new chapter with her, knowing that her father supports our union.
He pats my back as we make our way out of the building. He tells me that his wife and he would love to be there when I propose. I smile and begin to think of what to do this week while they are staying with us. We hit the road and head back to the house.
I park the car, and Mr. Alvarez smiles before stepping out. I cut the engine and look at the ring in my hand. I want the boys home for this, so I call them to let them know that I'm going to ask Rosie to marry me. Nate tells me, "It's about time, dad."
I laugh and say, "I know, bud. So I'll see you guys tomorrow." I can't wait to propose to her and start this new chapter of our lives together with the support of her family.
