∆ Chapter 30 ∆ : Disheartened

When a knock came at the door, I immediately assumed it must be my parents. As I opened the door, panic washed over me.

I spot my mother stepping out of a car, and she blows a flying kiss to the men inside before almost tripping.
Rushing toward her,

I ask,
'Eomma, are you okay?'"

" Yes-ssss, leav-ee my-yy fuc-kin hann_ds she snapped at me

Oh, she's clearly intoxicated, stumbling as she tries to walk on her own.
I can't help but think,

'What a mother,' realizing she doesn't even know it's her daughter's birthday."

I hurry my steps toward the house, hoping that Jihyo doesn't catch sight
of Eomma in her current state

"You poor people,"
she sneers, gazing at our family picture.

Shame washes over me, tears threatening to spill. I grip her wrist and lead her inside the room, locking it from the outside.

That rainy day remains etched in my memory, a truly harrowing experience....

she calls, snapping me out of my memories.

I turn my head to see her delicate figure in the darkness.

"Are you okay?" She ask, concerned.

I nod in response, managing a weak smile. She stands beside me in front of the window, both of us peering outside together.

" The rain isn't stopping, what's wrong?"
She voices her concern.

"It's almost 8, what am I supposed to do?
I need to go home," she complains.

" I don't think you'll be able to,"
I respond, and she raises her eyebrows.

"What? Why?"
she asks with curiosity.

" According to my prediction, if you see, the dark clouds are still roaming above, which simply means it's going to rain the whole night,"
I explain.

"But..."
she whispers, and I glance back to try and understand her unease.

The rain continues with a big bang of thunder and lightning.

10 pm

It was around 10 pm, and we were still stuck there. The place had started flooding with water, and I could see trees had fallen.

I noticed her looking for a place to sit, so I reached into my pocket, took out my phone, and switched on the flashlight.

I directed the light towards her face and saw her looking directly at me with her wet t-shirt and sticky, wet hair.

"Yah, put that down," she complained

I inform her, "Take out your phone," as I try to find a place beside her to sit.

When she turns on the flashlight, I hold my phone next to hers, combining the lights to illuminate the room. It works, and the room is lit slightly.

The place feels stuffy and dark, with mosquitoes buzzing around.

Trummmmmmmmmmmmm," a sound reaches my ears, and I realize it's her, the sound came from her. I turn to see her holding her tummy and looking quite embarrassed.

"Are you hungry?" I ask her.

"No, it was not me, it's the thun-der," she completes, which makes me laugh a little.

I decided to break the silence

" do you like rain?"

"Yeah, I mean I like it, but only when I'm at home. I can enjoy the rain from inside, and I could make myself some delicious food while watching the rain," she smiles

she questions me in return.

"Not really,"
I admit, feeling a shudder.

"I won't ask why,"
she says, gazing somewhere else, and I nod in response

" You know, each person has different memories and a unique perspective on the things we experience in daily life, and it's okay to dislike things," she says.

I'm pleasantly surprised by her thoughtfulness.

I didn't know she could speak in a way that could soothe someone's heart.
