My alarm has been going off for twenty minutes now. I can hear my Mom coming up the stairs, and if I'm not up by then I'm in trouble. So I decided to get up really quick and take off my shirt. "Stephanie Clark if you aren't up this instant-" she opens my door to find me changing, "Mom! I'm changing!" That always works, I'm clearly a genius.
To make getting ready a little better, I turn on some music. Once I walk downstairs, my Mom is still a little mad, but I make breakfast and just pretend she isn't glaring at me. "What were you doing upstairs?" Her tone couldn't get harsher, "I was just on the phone with Ethan, he was making sure I was awake on time." Ethan does do that, it's so annoying to me, but she believes it and just walks away rolling her eyes. Dad must've done something, because she's not always like this.
Although I woke up late, I'm not late to school at all. I typically wake up early to go on a run or workout, but I can skip today.
On the bus I put my earbuds in and start my playlist, I can't live without music for a second of the day. But it was interrupted by a call from Ethan. My boyfriend, he's a concerned type. If I don't text him back he panics, or if I don't call him in the morning he spams me. So now he's rapidly calling me because he thinks I'm asleep. "Hey sweetheart," I force myself to say that, I hate pet-names, but he loves them. "You okay?! You didn't call, I was worried!" I sigh, "I'm sorry, I was rushed, I overslept a little. I'm okay though! Don't worry about me." He sighs in relief, "alrighty then, hey I have a question for you, would it be okay if I go out with some people this Saturday?" Saturday is our anniversary, he forgot. "Yeah sure! Go ahead! What's the plan?" He didn't notice anything I'm assuming because he just continues. "I'm going to a party, honestly you could come if you want. But I know you're not a big fan of them." I think it over and say "yeah, I'll go. I gotta hang up, I love you." Finally, peace and music.
My friends don't typically get to the school when I do, so I have a little time before then to just sit with myself. Looking out the window, I could see a group of reds. They were using their powers, creating crimson electric energy from their hands and messing around. After five minutes, a teacher went out there and told them off.
It's 7:25, my friends are probably in the library. I got up, put my bookbag on, and headed there. I pass the main hallway, with all the colored banners. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Each represents a different power color, red being the weakest and purple being the strongest. Of course the reds are the most common, but normal people without any powers are the most common. Seventy-six percent of the population are "normies" and with purples only being two percent. Both my parents have these abilities, even my brother, but not me.
"Steph! Over here!" My friend Anthony shouts towards my direction. With him are Sophie and Grace, none of them have powers either. But that's okay, we don't need those fancy abilities to enjoy high school. "Sophie, you okay? You look dead." Grace deadpans, I laugh. "Rude, I'm just tired, this school sucks all my energy from me." She tucks her red hair behind her ear so she can actually see who she's talking to. "Pft, same though, but god forbid we take a break longer than a week." We have summer vacation, but during the year we only have a total of two weeks of off days. "Seriously, it's ridiculous," Anthony adds. Then, the bell rang and it's time for first period. I wanna go home.
