Alexander continues to talk about the production of the new device, then we enter the production room. It's not as big as you'd assume, but it's still a big room. There are so many people bustling about, as if we were at the center of a bee colony.
"So this is the production zone, what do you think?" Alexander smiles and looks at me. "It's so busy, we only have done one test, and that was me." We sit at this table in this rudimentary office area. "Immediately after your test, I sent the results to the lab, and our technicians were able to begin the production of the finished result. It's like the arm band I had you test, but more... user friendly, for lack of better words."
"Has anyone with a different color tested it yet?" Alexander adverts his eye contact with mine, strange. "Well of course, we wouldn't just send a product out to our communities without proper testing. We have had a volunteer or staff member from every color group test the device, speaking of, it needs a name." He's thinking, I'm still confused as to why he acted so strangely when I asked about the testing, he seemed insecure. "Any ideas?" He asks me, I haven't even begun to think of a name. "I think you should come up with a name, it was your idea, and I only helped with part of it." He nods, "I agree, it puts too much pressure on you as well. How about an acronym? E.I.D."
This brilliant man in front of me, the creator of the Obsidian Corps, the only purple for years, came up with THAT. "You look confused, let me explain. It stands for Early, Identification, Device. And we could pronounce it like the word 'aid.' And it makes sense because we would be aiding people with an early identification process." Okay now that makes way more sense, I was concerned for a moment. "I like it, it's simple but not too simple." He smiles, "great! EID should be available to the public within months."
"Is it going to be available for personal use? Or just at education or medical facilities?" The clanging of the forming metal in the busy room is starting to annoy me. "It would be available for schools, clinics, and organizations alike, it's not an 'at home item.'" I nod, "that makes more sense. Is there anything else for me to see?" As I say that, my Mom starts to call me, she's here to get me. "Just kidding, my Mom is here to get me, can you walk me out?" He stands and waits for me, "of course." We walk towards the exit, the building slowly becoming more familiar. My Mom is in the lobby waiting, she looks tired from her errands.
My Mom hugs me and I catch her up on what's going on. "Does that mean that you're done with testing?" We get into the car and she starts driving us home. "I believe so, I forgot to ask, but he said that was the final step with the prototype, hopefully I'm done."
The drive home was normal, it was raining, I miss Emma. I was gonna ask her if she wants to come over, I hope she doesn't have plans. When we walk inside, my Dad is reading on the couch, and Wyatt isn't home so it's just him. "We're not doing anything specific for dinner tonight, so just fend for yourself." My Dad smiles, "how was testing? Are you finally done?" I help my Mom set her things down, "I think so, and it was short today. We did the final step of the prototype, so I think that means no more painful days."
I texted Emma to see if she wants to come over, she said she'd be right over, and I can't wait. I see her often, but I just love spending time with her. After waiting for a little bit, I heard her come in, I love that she can just walk into my house confidently.
I can hear her speaking to my parents, and they are also happy to see her, they love her like their own daughter. It's amazing. She makes her way to my room and peeks in. "You're being weird, just come in silly." She giggles, "I can't, there's a really pretty girl in there and I'm too shy." I get up and open the door, she pretends to melt, I start laughing as she really gets into it. "Oh I'm dying of your beauty! What will I do?" I kiss her on the forehead and she laughs and gets up. "I'm cured!" We laugh together and walk into my room and lay on my bed. "I missed you, can I tell you about testing today?" She smiles, "I missed you too, and please tell me." I sit up and she sits across from me, "I think today was the last time, Alexander said it was the 'final step of the prototype' but I forgot to ask. If he contacts me again about testing then we'll know. But it wasn't painful, I just tested the prototype itself, it's really cool." She nods, "yeah? What is it exactly?"
I extend my arm, "it's an armband that goes on your arm like this," I show her how it rested on my arm, "then you try to create your light, and nothing comes out of your hand, but the armband lights up with your color." Her eyes widen, that is pretty cool. Does it hurt at all?" I shake my head no, and she smiles, she's relieved. "But yeah, that's pretty much it." I stretch and lay down, and she lays next to me and we cuddle and fall asleep.
A/N: Sorry for the huge delay, school started and I've had like no motivation to write. I'm not going to say "I'm back" because I'm not sure how much I'll be able to write. But here's chapter 18! Hope you enjoy!
