The office door creaked open.
Slowly, as if stirring some sort of suspense, it creaked open. Sophie of course, having just woken up to discover the lights were all turned off and she was completely alone took this as a sign of danger.
So as any sane person likely would after being alone in an office without any light or warning as to who might be entering the chillingly quiet space at this hour, (what hour was it anyways? Midnight? She hadn't even woken up long enough to remember to check the time,) Sophie Elizabeth Foster let out a high pitched scream, and wielded the closest weapon next to her which happened to be her purse. She completely shielded her face with the 'weapon' (blindingly bright sparkly pink purse that Biana and Linh bought her years ago,) not daring to look up at the intruder. Her heart raced inside her chest as she slowly fixated her blurry eyes up to the person standing at the door.
"You're still here?" Keefe asked, leaning against the door and shining a flashlight at her. She averted her eyes from the bright rays that blinded her momentarily.
"Sorry." He said, pointing the flashlight down imminently and turning a light on. He sat down, occupying the chair next to her and turning 160 degrees to meet her eyes. "Did I scare you? I really didn't mean to, I didn't know you were in here."
"Ah." Sophie said drily, running her tongue over her chapped lips and putting a hand on her chest to calm her still racing heart.
Keefe pouted. "I really am sorry."
Sophie cleared her throat. "Don't worry about it, it's fine. But uh.. What time is it anyways?" She asked, lowering her purse and rummaging through it.
"Almost 1:00 A.M?" Keefe responded coolly, tapping his watch.
"What.. Did you say?" Sophie gasped. "I slept for that long?"
"You fell asleep?" Keefe said with a laugh that he poorly tried to suppress. He rested his hand on the side of his face and smiled impudently at her. She grumbled in response and turned away, pretending to occupy herself by fixing her messy blonde hair in the dimly lit reflection of the dark computer in front of her.
He sighed. "Wow, Foster. Sleeping on the job. I can't blame you, though."
"Because of my poor alcohol tolerance?" She mumbled, resting her head on her desk.
"Because you have the most boring job ever." He said in response.
"Why did you choose this job anyways? You seem like the type who could get really any job, so out of all jobs.."
"I'll tell you another time." Sophie said, too impatient to explain. She was more concerned about getting home.
Keefe nodded understandingly. "I guess you probably want to leave now, huh?" He said with a nervous smile.
She narrowed his eyes at him. "Can't I do that?"
"About that.. We're sort of locked in this building.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?" Sophie spewed, her feet meeting the ground abruptly as she stood up.
"I'm not too happy about it either.. But daddy dearest doesn't trust me with the keys to the building, and uh- he sort of doesn't know that I am still in here."
"But he'll come back, right?" Sophie asked hopefully, about to tear her hair out of her scalp from frustration.
"Most likely not. This isn't the first time this has happened, and since we both live in different houses and drive separate cars.. You get the point. He doesn't really notice when I leave work or bother to ask if I got home safely."
"You could call him." Sophie offered in a small voice, her last shred of hope falling away.
"I could try to. He's probably sleeping though, and he silences his phone at night."
Keefe whipped out his phone and called his dad's number. She looked over him, watching to see if his dad would pick up. Unfortunately, as expected, Cassius Sencen, (or as he was marked in Keefe's phone- "Best Daddio Ever 🥺") did not pick up the phone.
"But look on the bright side." Another voice said from behind them, making both of them forget themselves and exclaim in sudden shock.
It was Ro.
She smiled sweetly at them, her gangly and muscular body looming over them as she folded her hands behind her back. "You aren't completely alone!.. I got stuck in here too."
Her face fell.
Then it lit up again as she considered the possibilities of what this meant.
"We could have a..."
"Slumber party!" Keefe finished for her, giving her a fist bump. Sophie groaned, slamming her head on the desk. This was going to be a very long night.
