Sophie woke up with a blinding headache, a dry throat, and a sore body. It was not a pleasant way to wake up, to say the very least.
As she regained consciousness, she heard voices outside her door.
"Do you think she's awake yet?" Grady asked.
"Maybe we should just let her sleep a little longer-" Edaline said in a hushed tone.
"Let's just go in." Amy said, grabbing the door handle and pulling it down. Sophie squeezed her eyes shut, pretending to be asleep again. She had vague memory of what occurred last night- but she knew she accidentally drank that clear liquid that should have been water but wasn't.
Besides that?
She didn't know how she got home, or what happened afterwards. Part of her didn't know if she wanted to remember.
It was her first time drinking, and she didn't even do it on purpose. She didn't know what kind of crazy stuff she might have done while drunk, but she assumed she probably just slept the whole time. Probably.
It did bother her, though, that there was now a large gap in her memory.
"That boy had better go easy on her at work today. It's partially his fault in the first place that this happened.." Grady mumbled as her family walked in her bedroom. 'That boy?' Was he referring to Keefe?
Hold on.. Did Keefe possibly take her home?
Sophie groaned inwardly. How embarrassing for her. She had to make him go through all that work on her account after he'd already done so much for her. Hopefully he didn't hold any grudges towards her after what happened yesterday. Well.. Whatever happened yesterday.
"Sophie?" Edaline said softly. "Are you awake?"
Sophie decided to give up the act and opened her eyes, faking a yawn. "Oh, good morning mom.." She said casually. She was inwardly panicking.
"You're in trouble." Amy mouthed, sticking out her tongue. Sophie crinkled her nose at her younger sister and Jolie quietly scolded Amy.
"All of you, out." Edaline shooed her nosy family out of the room and shut the door.
Sophie pulled her blanket over her head, mentally preparing herself for scolding she might have to undergo.
However, to her surprise, her adoptive mom said this;
"It's okay, I'm not angry at you."
"Really?" Sophie said, pulling down her covers slowly.
"Really. You're an adult now, Sophie. Even if you had drank that much on purpose I can't really do anything about it. But Keefe told me what happened, and I'm just happy that you didn't drink that much on purpose. It was an accident, that's all that matters."
Sophie sighed in relief.
"But,"
Uh oh. Usually anything that comes after 'but' isn't good.
"But?" Sophie pried?
"But where did you find such a charming boy?" Edaline teased, poking Sophie. Sophie groaned. Just as she thought. Anything that comes after that word is never good. She'd rather be punished right now than listen to Edaline's teasing. Or undergo any boy talk.
"Mom, it's not like that!"
"His face when he carried you in the house on his back said otherwise." Edaline said with a sly smile.
"He carried me on his back?" Sophie screeched, loud enough for anyone within a hundred mile radius to hear.
"Calm down. How was he supposed to get you from one place to another? He could've dragged you by your foot if that would have been better." Edaline chided.
"Maybe that would have been better." Sophie said, outwardly panicking.
"We still have to convince Grady to like him, but you might have a chance with him you know-"
"Mom please. I said I don't like him like that. He's just a good friend."
"Boys rarely ever just want to be good friends, you know."
"Fine." Sophie said, about to rip all of her eyelashes out. "But I still don't like him."
"Whatever you say. I made mint chocolate ripplefluffs if you want any."
All of Sophie's other thoughts disappeared as she ran to the kitchen.🌸✨🌸✨🌸✨🌸✨ At Work ✨🌸✨🌸✨🌸✨🌸
Sophie was so exhausted she barely remembered to change out of her pajamas, (which happened to have way too many polka dots on them.) However, despite being exhausted and having dark circles under her eyes she did eventually remember to change out of her blinding pajamas. This is her outfit:
Yes, it was lazy, but it was still cute.
Sophie, who was surviving on a tall mug of coffee, stumbled through the revolving doors and took an elevator to her office. Strange, Keefe wasn't pestering her today.
No way..
Was he mad at her?
She pulled out her phone and sent him a text.Hey.
He left her on read for three minutes- she counted. He was typing a message the whole time. But he just responded with,
Sup Foster?
Seriously, did it take three minutes to type two words? She came to the conclusion that he was definitely mad at her. So she needed to apologize to him in person, it was the decent thing to do.
Can I talk to you for a minute?
He took even longer to respond this time. The little chat bubble that showed he was typing seemed to be taunting her the entire time as she waited anxiously.
Sure..
'Sure..'? What kind of a lame response was that?
Whatever. She probably deserved it.
I'm in the office. She typed. The office door opened. The handle turned slowly, almost timidly. What was up with him? Was he really that mad at her? She felt a frown form on her face but she quickly shook it off.
All eyes turned to Keefe as usual, who didn't have Ro trailing behind him today.
His eyes were fixated intently on her, but he looked more disheveled than usual. He also looked.. Nervous? She couldn't quite tell. He didn't look angry though, which was hopefully a good thing.
She smiled at him, getting out of her seat.
"Let's talk somewhere quieter, shall we?" She suggested, her eyes scanning the crowded room that was focused very intensely on them.
Keefe cleared his throat, and finally croaked. "Yes, uh, let us do that." Pause. "Foster." He added.
They made their way to his own personal office. He was quiet almost the entire time but Sophie finally broke the silence by saying, "you're acting unusual today. Is everything alright?"
His eyes flickered over to her and he laughed incredulously. "Alright? Everything's great." He laughed again. It sounded forced. She wasn't sure why he was laughing, but she smiled as well. "Oh, that's good then."
Their conversation was notably dry.
They stepped into his office. Keefe stared at her for a minute, then startled, pulling out a chair for her.
"Please, take a seat."
She sat, knitting her eyebrows together.
"Are you sure everything's okay? Are you mad at me? Listen, I really have to apologize for yesterday. I heard you took me home, thank you. You didn't have to do that-"
Keefe's eyebrows shot up. "Mad at you? I thought you were mad at me.." he covered his mouth, realizing what he'd said.
"Mad at you? Why?" She said, sitting up straighter.
"Never mind. It's nothing. At all." Keefe said, laughing absurdly again. "You don't remember anyways."
"No it's not. What did I do?" Sophie pried, staring into his eyes.
Keefe rubbed the back of his head, avoiding her gaze.
"Tell me."
"Well, you kind of.."
Keefe stammered, unable to form words.
"If you can't talk can you show me?"
There was a stunned silence from him and his face increasingly got redder. His hand fidgeted with the arm of his chair.
"Uh, I don't think so.. Is it just me or is it hot in here?" He waved a hand in front of his face and exhaled.
Sophie shrugged and shook her head. It felt fine to her.
Keefe sighed. "Fine, want me to demonstrate? I'll demonstrate."
Before she even knew what was happening, he was behind her. He grabbed her head in his hands, looking at her lips with half opened eyes.
"I get it!" Sophie yelled, gliding her chair forwards, and flinging him backwards.
"Do you remember now?" Keefe asked hopefully, ignoring the fact that he just got thrown down.
She covered her face with her hands. "Yes, I remember now. It looks like I have more to apologize for after all."
"No need to apologize. I mean there are worse things that could have happened." He said, still flustered but returning to his usual smirk.
"Yeah, I guess so." Sophie said, laughing it off, but also inwardly cursing herself. (And reminding herself to never drink alcohol again.)
"But Foster, I didn't know you thought of me like that." He remarked smugly, wiggling his eyebrows at her. She rolled her eyes.
"Who said I did? It was just a mistake. A stupid mistake." She assured him, pretending not to notice that he looked a little bit hurt.
"Yeah, it was just a mistake.." He said, mirroring her."Besides, I like someone else." She blurted.
To be continued!!! Stopping here because I'm tired and can barely type anymore lol.
