Chapter Eleven: One Long Nightmare.

"Are you okay?" River asks, from his room. I look up through my tear-stained face.
"I'm fine," I reply, wiping away my tears.
"Ria, I don't believe you," River says, and I sigh.
"I don't know why I'm so irritated. My life is like one long nightmare that I can't escape from," I groan, and River hops over to my room. He sits down on the bed, and I reluctantly sit up.
"Explain," River says, and I sigh, looking away.
"I moved to this town when I was thirteen. I met a guy, and he asked me out. So I said yes, because I was a dumb blonde teenager. It lasted a long time, being happy. Though I knew he was trouble. It wasn't anything he did or said, it was the feeling that I had when I was around him. It was an uneasy feeling, like someone inside of you slowly pulling a knot tighter and tighter in your stomach. I sort of got used to the feeling, I guess, and followed his lead. What a stupid mistake to make," I whisper, not meeting River's eye. One day, I'll tell him the whole story, but for now I'll tell him what I'm ready to tell him. I can't talk about the rest, yet.
"Then I found out he had cheated on me with this girl. And I forgave him. I guess he realised how much I would let him do, and kept cheating. But that first girl was the problem. She found out she was pregnant, and told Caspar. Caspar panicked, and left everything. I was obviously heartbroken, and I didn't know what to do. I guess I was looking for an easy way out, I tried to starve myself, becoming anorexic, I still have therapy for it now, along with my anxiety. I tried to kill myself on more occasions than I'd like to remember. It was a total nightmare. On top of this, I promised I would help the pregnant girl with the baby, and the baby died during childbirth. The mother of the baby blamed me, and now completely hates me. She wants to kill me," I say, quietly. A tear rolls down my cheek, and I wipe it away.
"And now - now he's back, and I wasn't prepared for that. Then today, Cara and him kissing wasn't what I expected. Cara always said she hated him, so why would she kiss him? But it all makes sense. Caspar was interested in Cara all along, used me for her. Now Cara and Caspar are heading towards their happy ever after, but not quite yet, for the pregnant girl is still in the picture, and has befriended Cara, using her for Caspar," I say, before looking up and meeting River's eye.
"Wait, who is the he and the she?" River asks, confused.
"The he is Caspar, and the she is the pregnant girl, who happens to be the one and only Ashley Gold," I reply, sighing.
"I'm so sorry, Ri. No one should have to go through something like that at your age," River whispers, taking my hand in his.
"It's in the past, right? I've just got to get over it," I say, quietly. River wraps his arms around me and hugs me. I hug him back, as the warmth from his body surrounds me.
"Sorry," I whisper into his chest.
"For what?" River asks.
"For being in a state," I reply, and River chuckles.
"It's fine," River chuckles, pressing his lips against my forehead lightly. River then steps back, and smiles.
"I'll leave you to go to bed, I'll see you tomorrow," River says, walking to the window. I take his hand, stopping him from moving.
"Stay, please," I say, and River nods. I quickly to into the bathroom and change into a loose black crop top and my grey sweatpants. I go back into my bedroom to see River lying on my bed with only his boxer shorts on. I roll my eyes, sliding onto the bed next to him. I then reach over and then off the light.
"Goodnight, princess," River whispers, his breath hitting the back of my neck lightly.
"Goodnight, Brooks," I whisper back, before River wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me into his chest. I smile softly, closing my eyes and slowly falling asleep.

The next morning, I wake up before River. River's strong arms are still around my waist, and his legs and tangled up with mine. My hands are placed over his, and I can hear River's light breathing. I look over at the clock, and groan. We are so late. I hit River's arms, and River opens his eyes, raising an eyebrow.
"What?" River asks, his voice croaky from just waking up, and it sounds well hot. Wait what?
"We're late," I inform him, and River rolls his eyes. I slide out of the bed and grab my clothes, before going into the bathroom and changing. When I'm out, River has gone. I roll my eyes, putting my glasses on and straightening my hair quickly. I briefly look at myself in the mirror. I'm wearing a white shirt with short sleeves, and a black skirt. I undo the top two buttons, before grabbing my makeup bag and rushing out the house. Great, Cara's even stopped picking me up for school. I sigh, before rushing down towards the school.
I get there on time, and go straight to my locker. I'm just getting out my books, when my locker is slammed shut and I spin round. Ashley shoves me against the wall, and frown.
"I heard River spent the night with you. All he wanted was to fuck you, but you just cried and cried, wanting him to feel sorry for you. I heard you told him a sob story. Well, I've realised that I won't get Caspar, and I want River, and I get what I want. So you stay away from him, while I think of a plan to...how do you put it...get rid of you," Ashley drawls, scowling at me. I stay silent, and Ashley rolls her eyes, before storming away. I am in so much trouble.
