"You can't be fucking serious Jungkook." Jackson stared at Jungkook's back with crossed arms against his chest as he watched Jungkook empty the contents of his locker into a duffel bag.
Jungkook didn't respond. He was tired of fighting with Jackson over his decision.
"You're really throwing away everything. For what? Because you can't get your shit together emotionally." Jackson spat out.
Jungkook grit his teeth hands bawling into fists as he whirled around to glare at Jackson.
"Can't get my shit together emotionally? My fucking brother died!"
Jungkook knew he was shouting but he didn't give a fuck. He didn't care about it much these days, too consumed with grief over losing his brother three months ago. The only person in this shitty world that truly cared about him.
Jackson let out a long breath as he ran his hand down his face. He knew he shouldn't have said what he said as soon as the words left his mouth but fuck. Jungkook was throwing his future away and Jackson couldn't just sit there and watch him do it not when he saw firsthand what it took for Jungkook to get to where he was now which was at the very top of his division, it's champion.
"Jungkook please." Jackson begged. "Take time off, go on a vacation, but please don't throw away everything that you have worked so hard to achieve by doing this. By walking away from it completely. Do you think Junghyun would want that for you?"
Jungkook's eyebrows pinched together. He knew Jackson was trying to help but he was doing the complete opposite right now. Everything he was saying was only making things worse. Making Jungkook surer in his decision to walk away. Pissing him off. He knew if Junghyun was still alive he would support him in whatever choice he was making. He would be in his corner just like he used to be when Jungkook was in the ring.
That was the thing though. Jungkook's head wasn't in the ring anymore. He was too distracted by the heartbreak of entering the ring and not seeing his brother there. Not having him encourage him in-between rounds, giving him tips on when to fall back and let his opponent tire himself out or just bare down on them. He couldn't stand being in the ring now. Because now, he was completely alone when he stepped into it.
"I already told you." Jungkook gave his back to Jackson again as he shoved the remaining contents of his locker into his duffel bag. "My mind is made up."
"Jungkook they aren't going to let you do this. They aren't going to let you just walk away. There will be repercussions. Financial ones." Jackson spoke voice still pleading behind him.
Jungkook swung the locker door shut the sound of metal slamming against metal echoing through the room.
"So be it. I don't care. Like I said. My mind is made up." Jungkook punctuated as he tightened his hold on his duffel bag and made for the exit past Jackson.
Jackson, before Jungkook could walk out of the locker room grabbed ahold of his forearm stopping him from doing so. Jungkook looked down at him and his hand wrapped around his arm.
"Jungkook." Jackson locked eyes with Jungkook. When he did, he could see the resolve in them. He knew in that moment there was no use. Jungkook wasn't going to budge. There was nothing he could do or say that would dissuade him from quitting. Jackson let go of Jungkook's arm with a resigned sigh. "I'll try to keep the blowback to a minimum. Just. Just fucking take care of yourself okay."
Jungkook looked at Jackson for a few seconds before nodding, "you too."
With that, Jungkook walked out of the locker room stepping into the hallway that led back out into the actual gym. The moment he was out of the hallway into the main space he could feel all eyes swivel and land on him. Those eyes continued to bore into him as he crossed through the gym walking past the ring where he practically lived before Junghyun passed away. It was a place that before then centered him brought him contentment. But now, it was the opposite. Now, all it holds is turmoil and a reminder of what he lost.
