Flashback

Caitlin's apartment

It had been exactly three months since she and Barry had started dating, that should have been a special evening for them...

That morning, however, a surprising turn had filled her with fear...

After the miscarriage and some complications Caitlin had to undergo periodic thorough checkups to prevent problems from arising.

Initially they were fairly frequent checks, but after years they were reduced to an annual recurrence, added to her regular gynecological visits.

Scheduled check ups included an MRI with contrast, and during routine blood tests, doctors discovered she was pregnant.

For Caitlin it was a real shock, by now she had given up on the idea of being a mother for years, when she lost her last child they had clearly told her that it would have been impossible for her to carry on a pregnancy even with medical assistance.

What freaked her out the most though was the fact that she and Barry hadn't been together long enough to talk about starting a family, especially after what happened with Iris.

It had taken her all day to get him to talk to Barry, and now, as she was relaxing on the couch as they waited for dinner to go, it was time...

"Barry..." Caitlin said, almost whispering

"What's up Cait?" Barry asked, noting the uncertainty in the woman's voice

"Well I... Have you ever thought about how our relationship will evolve... over time?"

"Not exactly..." Barry said honestly "The truth is, I still don't know how I would like my future to be..."

"Oh..."

"I don't mean that I wouldn't like to spend it with you... on the contrary... I love you"

"What I want to know is...after you lost Nora and Bart to Iris...have you ever thought about...having a family?"

"Caitlin, you are all I want in life right now... I love you and I could never do without you...

I don't know what the future holds for us, but I know it would be great to find out with you...

It doesn't matter if we can't have children, I love you and I wouldn't blame you...

I love you... and I would marry you tonight too"

Barry hadn't even finished speaking when Caitlin burst into tears and threw her arms around him

"Caitlin... What's going on?"

"This morning I have to do a MRI with contrast between all the tests ... and first they did the blood tests as per procedure ... I'm pregnant!"

Caitlin froze, feeling Barry's hands that had been holding her so far pull away

"Barry?" she asked walking away without even looking up, afraid to meet his gaze

"... it's mine?"

Caitlin felt anger fill her... "What the hell of a woman do you think I am!?" her mind screamed, she wanted to explode at him...

Before doing so, she realized who the man in front of her was...

"Of course it is, Barry... I'm not Iris"

"Sorry Caitlin"

"Barry, I was upset when you asked if it was yours...but...after what you've been through...the truth is, I was worried you didn't want it..."

"I love you Caitlin and having children is something I never hoped to have with you"

"Does that mean you won't leave me because it's unexpected?"

"Caitlin, like I said I love you... and our first date was over a year ago and..."

"But what would you tell me about all the others..."

"A couple have been believing it for years... now I don't care what they think and neither should you... in the end now we have this..."

"Barry so you really aren't mad? We had never talked about it... and..."

"Caitlin, I was serious when I told you that I would marry you again today...in fact I still am..."

"Is this a way to propose?"

"Actually yes, Cait"

"Really? Would you really marry me now?"

"Sure Caitlin... I would marry you right now... actually... how about we do something completely crazy?"

"Like what?"

"Let's rush to Las Vegas... and get married there tonight"

"But..."

"Caitlin, I don't like the idea of getting married like this either, but the only thing that would change if we tried to arrange something would be that we would be married by a justice of the peace and not an Elvis impersonator..."

"I would have liked a bigger wedding... you know what I mean..."

"Caitlin, I don't think we could actually have that wedding...it would be us and Cisco and Kamilla and Allegra...nobody else..."

"We could contact Felicity..."

"I don't think he would go back to Central City after everything that's happened..."

"It's just moments like this that I miss my friends..."

"I don't know about you, but I don't care about having a perfect marriage, what matters to me is getting married to you... getting married to you and living the rest of my life with you..."

"The same goes for me... I love you so much Barry"

"I love you Caitlin Snow"

Overwhelmed with joy, Barry pulled Caitlin into a passionate kiss. It was as if time had stopped and they were the only two people in the world.

It didn't matter to either of them that they wouldn't have a wonderful wedding to tell about, all that mattered was their love for each other
