Lost Adventure

Chapter 4

"Help!" Teague screamed. Maverick took his phone out and shined it on the ground. They saw there was a big rocky slant and Teague was at the bottom rubbing his shoulders.

"Teague, did you fall?!" Haley called out.

"No, I just decided it would be a good idea to jump off that slab." Teague called back sarcastically.

"C'mon let's go get him." Lilly sighed. With Maverick's phone flashlight, they slowly navigated to the bottom where they helped Teague up and realized it would take a long time to get back up. "Ugh, why didn't we see this before!?" Lilly complained.

"Well, let's just text your parents to come and find us." Maverick Suggested.

"Great idea!" Lilly responded, taking her phone out of Maverick's bag. "Guys there is no cell service down here."

"You can't text your parents Lilly." Haley stated.

"Ok, then we will just scream for help." Teague said.

"HELP! HELP! HELP!" He called. For about 30 minutes they took turns yelling for help but no one came.

"Hey let's go explore over here." Lilly said, peeking around a corner. They gathered their stuff and followed Lilly. Soon they started seeing crystals reflecting off of the light from Maverick's phone.

"Look... Little crystals. This place reminds me of the Carlsbad Caverns." Teague said in awe.

"Guys stay here, I am going to go look around." Maverick said, rushing off.

"O......kay?" Teague questioned. They waited for Maverick to return but after 15 minutes he still hadn't returned.

"Where's Maverick?" Haley asked, looking around.

"HELP!" Maverick screamed, there was an echo throughout the cave.

"Maverick?!" They all said looking around.

"Guys! Walk towards my voice!" Maverick's voice was sounding more panicked. The three slowly walked towards Maverick's voice! "GUYS!! HURRY!" Maverick yelled louder than ever. Haley saw a bright glow and slowly walked to it. Then she peeked over and saw the lava, she also saw maverick holding onto a small crystal keeping himself from slipping into the lava.

"Maverick! How did you get down there?!" Haley yelled.

"When I walked off. I saw the light and my shoe was untied and I slipped. I hit my head on this crystal here and grabbed it before I fell into the lava pool!" Maverick explained. He was now breathing harder, his face was red and wet with sweat.

"Lilly! Teague! I found him!" Haley called out. " Great!" Lilly said, walking to Haley, but the smile on her face disappeared when she saw maverick.

"How do we get him out? We can't really touch anything, the cave has a tiny chance that it will collapse." Lilly said, crouching closer to the floor.

"How?" Haley questioned. "When these caves are formed, by water seeping into bedrock cracks, sometimes the cave will become too big to support itself and collapse. If we try to break off crystals the cave could collapse because it won't be able to support itself. It's unlikely, but there is a small chance!" Lilly explained touching a crystal.

"Guys! This is not the best time for a science lesson! I am about to fall off! It's too hot in here and my fingers are getting all sweaty." Maverick sounded tired and panicked.

"I have an idea!" Lilly shouted. "Let's make a human rope chain thing. Maverick you're gonna grab my hand and Haley make sure I don't fall! Teague Grab Haley!" Lilly explained.

"Haha! It's just like in that movie Journey To-" Haley was interrupted by Maverick.

"HALEY!! YOUR...GETTING...DISTRACTED!!!!" Maverick was yelling louder than he ever has.

"Oops, sorry, focusing, got it." Haley gave a thumbs up and grabbed Lilly's hand. Lilly crouched down and walked close to the edge, then she went on her stomach and inched forward to Maverick.

"Grab my hand!" Lilly instructed. Maverick swung his hand up and slapped Lilly. There was nothing to grab onto so now he was hanging by one hand. "Oww! Maverick! I said to grab my hand not slap me!!" Lilly was shaking her hand in pain.

"I CAN'T HOLD ON!! " Maverick yelled, his voice straining.

"Grab My hand and don't let go!" Lilly's eyes were stinging from the heat, and Haley had taken a hold of Lilly's ankles. Maverick let go, not screaming, not moving, just falling.

"MAVERICK!" Lilly screamed. She lunged forward and grabbed Maverick's bag, but instead of it being an epic save, she was pulled forward along with Haley.

"Teague pull us up. NOW!" Haley screamed. Teague took Haley's ankles and jerked but it seemed almost impossible to lift them up.

"Guys I can't lift 200 pounds! What do you want me to do?!" Teague cried, a crack in his voice.

"Uhhhh....Lilly, grab Maverick's waist. Teague, I'm going to help you get them up." Haley said quickly.

"How!? The three of you are hanging off a ledge!" Teague said, preparing himself to jerk Haley up again. Lilly counted to three and together they were able to get off the cliff and away from the lava. Lilly hugged Maverick, then Haley and Teague.

They were all panting in shock, and very sweaty. For twenty minutes they sat in silence. Maverick finally realized he was sitting on a hard floor with his friends next to him and he said, " Who..who... saved me?"

"We all saved you." Lilly said.

"Now that that's over, we need to find a way out of the cave." Teague said with a determined voice. They helped Maverick get to his feet and they walked to the edge of the giant ledge peeking over at the lava pit that almost swallowed them whole. They turned around and sprinted away.
