Chapter 13

Lilly's mouth dropped and she was silent for several minutes, then she said "Reality check, I ain't-" Maverick stopped her.He said "Lilly, I love you. Not as a friend...or a sister. I'm sorry." "You...ah...I like you too." Lilly said. "Come here I want to show you something." Maverick said, grabbing Lilly's hand. He pulled her to a big oak tree. He took her hand and together they carved L+M with a big heart around it. There was a moment of silence until they heard a voice in the distance. As the voice got closer Maverick realized it was C and she was running towards them."MAVERICK! LILLY! YOU GOTTA COME QUICK! THE GRASS CAUGHT ON FIRE! COME ON!" She yelled. "When we get to the campsite I want you guys to take your shirts and get them wet in the creek, then beat them on the areas with fire!" C dragged Maverick and Lilly back to the campsite. Thick smoke filled the air. The fire was spreading quickly and as far as they could see through the smoke, everything was burnt to ash. Haley, Teague, and Lb were running back and forth yelling and throwing water everywhere, but throwing the little bits of water on the raging fire made it worse. Sparks were flying everywhere, burning them. "C we need backup!" Lb yelled, swinging wet cloth around. They all ran around breathing the ground with a wet cloth and jumping into the creek to relieve the pain from the burns. When the fire was put out and the smoke thinned, the six came together, hugged, and sat down. "That stupid fire ruined everything! All of our jackets and things were burned to ashes, look, our food was burned to crisps!" Teague complained."Well, I guess we should just give up and die." Lb said, throwing his hands up. "Lb! Don't talk about that!" C scolded. "We need to decide what to do." Teague said calmly. "We would probably end up dead." Lb said, ignoring his sister's scolding. "Boy, you two sure do know how to suck the fun out of everything!" Haley said, crossing her arms. "Well I think we should keep going, honestly y'all wouldn't last five hours without me and LB." C said rudely. "First of all, C, we lived in a cave for almost a month, and look, we're still alive! And second, it's LB and I!" Lilly said, frustrated. "Oh whatever, you guys can go do your boring, city people stuff, see what I care!" C flung her arms up and left. Lilly didn't know where she went, but Maverick, Haley, Teague, and Lb all knew what was happening. The days passed and C didn't come back, Lilly's eyes cleared up, and she could see clearly again. They only had some berries and a bit of meat that Teague had found in one of the burned bags. "We should turn in, C won't come back. At least not tonight, besides, We've been waiting for what, 13 days?" Lb said, trying to sound sad. "You can go to sleep, but I'm going to stay awake." Maverick said sleepily. "Fine, I'll stay up too!" Lilly said, starting to get suspicious of Maverick. "No no you can go to sleep, it's ok Lilly." Maverick said seriously. Lilly, Haley, Teague, and Lb, went to their falling apart teepee that Lb had built earlier. Lilly was still suspicious of Maverick, so after Haley, Teague, and LB had gone to sleep, she got up and tiptoed behind a tree, to hide from Maverick.
