Sydney and Tom have been arguing a little more. It's not really arguing, but discussions, they don't agree. They are both exhausted by the end of the day. As the babies get older, it takes more energy to keep them entertained, and play with them.
The main source of their disagreements is that Sydney wants to start back to work on a part time basis, but still get enough of her hours in that she can get the full benefits, with insurance. Since she is detective the pay is good, and she loves her job, not having to go out on cases, but be involved, and she told Tom when the babies turned 8 months that she wanted to start back every day, but only go to the station 4 hours a day, and then she could go to the bowling alley and be there the other hours of the day and work on the computer and then do a little work at home.
Tom wants her to not go every day to the station and would rather she come to the bowling alley all day and do her detective work from there. Since she isn't out on cases anymore, she only does computer work, and digital work, and Tom's also not happy about the new officer there that took his place, on the cases. He thinks the guy is a jerk. Tells her the guy makes Booker look like a gentleman. The guy has been nothing but polite to Judy and to Sydney, always opens doors for them when they get there, makes food runs, tells Sydney how adorable their kids are. Calls her ma'am. Tom is just being jealous.
Tom admits to the guys that he knows he's jealous, and it's on him. All three guys have told Tom that this guy is respectful to Sydney and Judy, and that he has never been out of line with them. He respects Tom as a former officer, and as Sydney's husband. But Tom admits that he is just jealous because he left being a cop, and feels like he let Sydney down, because Sydney is still a cop.
Tom thinks Sydney may have a little bit of post-partum depression, because she's been through a lot, almost dying, losing that time with the babies, now she feels like she needs to be the only one taking care of them, to make up for that. She feels like she is a bad mom and failed her babies, by not being able to nurse them from the first day. Not being able to go hold them when they were in the nursery. She feels like they felt abandoned by her, they are born and then she isn't there. Tom and his mom, Judy, all try and tell her that is not true. He thinks she is overdoing it, trying to be the perfect mom, to make up for it, and is adding stress on to herself.
Tom's not upset about her being at the station more, it's mainly because he is still worried about her. He knows that the babies are exhausting, and if he is at the bowling alley, and she is at the station, and has the babies, then she is trying to nurse them, change all 3, play with them, and do work, and he thinks it's going to wear her out, and overwhelm her, and he's worried about her health and her getting sick.
Sydney has been feeling sick to her stomach, and she knows that it's just she's tired, the babies wear her out, and Tom being difficult about her going back to work. They don't really argue as in fight, it's just that they have words. Sydney feels like Tom thinks she's being a bad mom, because she wants to work at the chapel, with the babies, and that Tom is more than welcome to come hang out with her and help her. Which Tom does.
Tom keeps trying to tell her that he's not saying that. He's not saying she is a bad mom, she's the best mom, he's trying to get her to see that he's worried about her health. And then that upsets her, because she understands what Tom went through when she was in that coma and how scared he was, but it's been 8 months, the doctor has cleared her for 100 percent, and Tom is still nagging her, and it's like she feels like all he does is worry and stress over her, like if she even gets up he about freaks out, where are you going, what do you need, I'll get it. I'll do it. Sit down, lay down, put your feet up, take a nap, she knows that it's coming out of love for her, but it's stressing her out, and she knows it's taking a toll on him to worry. She vents to Judy and to Tom's mom about it, and it's like she says if it was up to Tom, I'd have to sit all day and not move at all. And have him carry me.
