Chapter 3

Cade's POV

I walked into the pack house and slammed the door behind me ready to find everyone outside setting up for tomorrow's barbecue.
I walked to my room and flopped onto my bed covering my face with my hands.
The door swung open and in walked my Beta, Blake.
I felt this wave of jealousy and I sat up and growled deeply.
"Woah man, what's up?" He asked holding up his hands in surrender.
He smelled like fresh daisies and honey. Ashley.
I growled again knowing he's touched her.
Why do I feel like this? I have dated numerous girls but I had never actually felt something for them. with Ashley it's way different.
"Is this about Ash?" He asked calmly. he already had a nickname for what was rightfully mine. he smirked and decided to tease me.
"Yeah we had fun. first we played 'try to catch' with m&ms, then we all snuggled as close together as possible to watch a horror movie, and so on..." he trailed off looking at the far wall then his eyes flew to the corners of his eyes when he saw me clench my fists and he smiled. "oh my god! You like her!!" He screamed and started laughing.
"I-I-I don't know..." I said.
"You so do!"he shouted. "oh my god what if she's your mate!?" He gasped.
A mate is someone the moon goddess assigns to every wolf in the world. a soulmate if you will. they have to find each other at some point weather they are young, about to die, of just regular time. the male has to mark the female with a bite where the neck and the shoulder meet. that's the mating process and if it's not completed your wolf will never be happy in its life.
"She's not my mate. she doesn't want me," I said sadly.
"But you want her, so go for it." He said smiling.
"I don't know Blake," I said putting my head in my hands. "it's complicated. I'm afraid of rejection," I admitted.
"You have girls practically falling at your feet for you and your afraid of rejection? That's not the Alpha I came to know." he scolded.
"Your right. I'll give it a shot," the words processed in my mind then registered to one thing. she's not 16 yet.
You have to turn 16 for your first shift and to find your mate.
The mate part is good but the shifting. my wolf was practically whimpering at the thought of Ashley being hurt in any way.
Shifting for the first time is the most painful thing in the entire world except being rejected by your mate or having your one and only soulmate die.
I made a promise to myself right then and there that I will be with Ash during her first shift. I will.
