CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

"Did you round up the check?"

Nial, the head of the BlackForest defence pack asked. Nial had been selected to head the unit because of his capabilities and experience.

From the papers he had seen of him, Nial was experienced and highly recommended in the battlefield.

He was once a soldier, joined the state defence force and had been away for a few years training and fighting with humans.

Pat didn't find it necessary to ask how he kept his powers hidden from humans since Nial was now a retired soldier and was already home.

Pat nodded at him as he stood before the cut line they had currently marked. This was to make their starting line for any possible attacks.

They were currently 50 km away from the entrance gate of the town.

Each cut line surrounding the town was marked 50 km away from the fence that surrounded the town.

From thereon, they were going to allocate groups of 5 to stay together and be in guard in case rouges or an enemy dared to enter.

Yesterday they had caught some rogues trying to enter the town. Because of their fast alert and stand on lookouts Pat had introduced, 2 of the rogue's were killed and 1 was left to be questioned.

It was unsettling just how much more rogue's began to invade the town, especially ever since they came into power.

Rogues did appear around town in the past but not from time to time. It was worrisome and Pat as always couldn't help but be worried.

He was a leader, his duty was towards his people.

He needed to look after those in town, the kids, the elders, those who basically couldn't defend themselves really well against an enemy and that meant keeping the town free from rogues. 

Wai came and stood beside Pat as he looked over the thick forest. He had also decided to accompany him in the task. 

"2 vampires, 2 werewolves and 1 witch in a group of 5" he stated. Pat nodded 

"I think they balance each other. Extra 2 for backup. One witch is more than enough to handle any situation that may arise. Their part would be to aid both vampires and werewolves" 

Pat seemed to have put a lot of thought into it. 

"So it's you, me, Korn, Andrew and Pran at the forefront, right?" he saw Pat nod in agreement. Wai looked at him for a while before he spoke up, "You still upset?" 

"I'm not" 

"You are not fooling me" 

Him and Wai weren't exactly friends but ever since they began talking and interacting with each other because of Pran, they have somewhat tolerated the existence of one another. 

Pat turned to look at him,

"I know he's always done things in my best interests. I just wish that for once he could inform me before making decisions all on his own. I mean I informed him of the vampire's decision which I have yet to decide" he stated in frustration. 

He looked ahead as he thought back to yesterday's events

"Have you lost your mind? What gave you the right to fire Mrs Canal?" 

Pat had badged into their apartment finding Pran playing video games with Aran. Seeing how upset Pat was, Pran had sent Aran to go ask for chocolates at the kitchen for his sisters.

The two had stayed silent as they watched the 10 year old boy run towards the door and out of the apartment. 

"It had to be done" he saw Pran hesitate and made a follow up, "I mean the werewolves deserve a chance to be in power" he tried to remedy the situation but Pat had already understood his words. The werewolves put him up to this.
