Chapter 30

Aether gets picked up the next morning by Scaramouche, and it's getting harder to be around the alpha knowing what he has to do... he even considers telling him he won't be able to go but he doesn't know what consequences will come from doing that.

He actually joins Aether in the library to study and get their work done, it was the last day they had to study for that semester so the library was more packed than usual even if it was early.

He sees a couple of friends he has been meaning to invite so he takes that chance to hand out a few of the invites he has left over before going back to finishing his work.

Of course he spots the student council at their usual table and it seems like Venti was already looking his way again. There's a pang on his chest and he decides to be brave by giving the beta a smile—he doesn't know what he expects back—maybe just a smile back or a nod but all he gets is a blank stare before the beta looks away.

"You okay?" Scaramouche says besides him, but it doesn't seem like he caught the whole thing.

"Yeah. I'm fine."

He should get used to it. But he doesn't think he ever will.

It's after school and he's climbing into Scaramouche's car to help him decorate his house (mansion) with party decorations etc. Luckily the alpha's parents ordered most things for them despite not being there, and also hired expensive catering for if the guests get hungry.

All he and Scaramouche needed to do was set everything up, which was easy enough right?

It's a fast drive there and the alpha opens the car door for him before they go inside, and even though it's his second time there he's still just as amazed at how huge the place is. His house is not even a third of it.

"Have you eaten yet? I can make you something before we start."

Aether is about to answer but his stomach rumbles really loudly in that moment—answering the question for him. He looks at the alpha sheepishly.

"Could you?"

Scaramouche nods and goes straight into the kitchen to make him something real quick. Aether sits down on one of the kitchen island's stools and watches the alpha swiftly move around preparing the meal for him.

Once the food is done Scaramouche sits down besides him and steals a few bites for himself. Aether doesn't mind it though and feeds him a few with his own hands. It feels very domestic but instead of giving him butterflies it makes him dread tomorrow's party.

The last thing he wants to do is hurt Scaramouche.

Sadly breaking his heart was something inevitable.

They spend the next two hours setting everything up, and although Scaramouche does most of the work Aether is proud for the little bit of things he did to help—decoration wise. He put up a bunch of party lights everywhere and released the balloons they got sent in boxes into the pool and a few inside.

Scaramouche showed him the photo op set up Miko had created and it was absolutely amazing and he knew a lot of people would love it. He took a few photos with the alpha, posting one on his Instagram story to tease it. Instantly it got reposted and shared with people in their school, a few even questioning if they were a couple.
