CHAPTER 27: Baby Let Me In

Alex POV:

I was now walking into the cafeteria. As I pushed through the doors, I caught a glimpse of Lincoln sitting in Mason's lap. And everyone was simply chatting up as they ate. I made my way over to the table solemnly. I decided to opt out on lunch, because I wasn't starving. Not only that, but I sat beside Lincoln and Mason, who were in a full-blown love SES right in front of my eyes. I absentmindedly rolled my eyes and proceeded to take my seat. After sitting down, everyone started to greet me. "Hey Ale, how was your day" Toby said, greeting me with a soft, caring smile. I looked up to meet his gaze from across the table. I smiled softly at him. " I've been good so far, Tobes. I gave him a subtle grin to follow with. As I looked around, I noticed that the whole gang was here, except for two Xavier and Cameron. "What happened to Xavier and cam.". But as I was about to finish my sentence, Xavier and Cameron bust through the doors, with smiles plastered on their faces, I was kind of shocked at Xavier's expression. Usually he carries the same calm, neutral expression on his face throughout the entire day, with an exception to seeing Tobes of course. It got me thinking about what they were talking about, as they made their way over here. I decided to just drop it and return my attention  to everyone else. But there was one person I wanted to pay attention to, and for him to the do the same. Dre sat at the table, and talked to everyone else, but hasn't said or uttered a single word in my direction. I mean he did say hi, as I reached the table, but what the fuck, that's it. Just one measly "Hi". It was painstakingly obvious that he was just trying to keep his distance, until everything was resolved. All through lunch, I snuck glances his way, but got none back in return. When the bell rang indicating that lunch was over, I dreaded going throughout my entire day.

As I was getting up, I heard my phone pang. I grabbed it from my pocket and read the notification from the bestie group chat:

Tobey: let's walk to class together

Link: I'm with it

Me: k

I just responded a quick response and waited for them, so we can leave. Link was giving Mason a goodbye kiss, I watched closely as Mason made his way down to Link's waist, and even lower to his butt. I had to retract my eyes, I felt I was invading their privacy, even though they were doing it out in about. Tobey was hugging and waving goodbye to everyone. I watched as he took specifically longer, on saying by to Xavier, they hugged each other for dear life as if they were never going to see each other next period. I couldn't help but to smile and laugh, amidst all this, I'm happy my friends are happy and their love life ain't in shambles like mines is. Eventually, they were done, and we began walking down the crowded corridors together. I broke the silence between because I could tell they were dancing around on eggshells with bringing up the whole Dre situation. "Link how'd your math test go, knowing you, you probably aced it". I nudged his shoulder as little as I said this.

"Honestly I'm giving it a 50/50, if I pass, I pass. But if I fail, I wouldn't be surprised my ass saw that coming". Link just gave us a strong, while me and Tobes let out a giggle. Well that certainly broke down the tension between us. "Dont say that Link I feel like you did ok, you gotta think postive". "Think positive, I don't think anyone would be thinking positive, as they take a test at 8 in the damn morning, and it ain't helping that Mr. Ramouse's is are teacher, he's ass barely know how to teach. No shade, but y'all know that's the truth". Honestly that is true half of the time in his class were basically stuck watching video on the subject, instead of him actually teaching it. "Tobes I'll have to agree with Link, based on how that class go nobody's passing that test". We all looked at each other and nodded. By the time we turn the corner I was outside my class, I hugged Link and Tobes goodbye as I made my way into Home economics. As soon I stepped into the classroom I immediately faced palmed myself, I just remembered Dres in this class as well. I made my way to my seat, which is right beside Dre. He gave me a nod and faced the board again. I don't know what I was expecting, thinking it would be much more than just that. I exhaled and took my seat.

"Ok class settle down, settle down. Today we will be doing something a little different, Now this assignment will be leading to are major project that will be worth 40% of your grade". As Mrs. Delores finished the last part, the whole class filled with grunts of annoyance, in mention of a project. "I know, I know, but this project must be done. The good news is that this assignment will be due at the end of the semester, meaning you guys have 3 months to complete it. In addition I will not be assigning no homework, to ensure you guys are fully focused on the project. You will also be working in peers of 2. But the bad news is i'll be choosing your partner". Again the classroom was filled with commotion. "Ok class give me about 15 min to figure out the pairings, and as I do, y'all are allowed to engage with each other quietly". I had a bad feeling about the pairings at first, but a thought came to me that I couldn't resist.

" Ok everyone I got my list, everyone stand up and grab your belongings, when I call your name, you are to go to the person I have paired you with. Ok Drew...Mila, Taylor....Morgan, Liam....Rogue". The list went on and on, until I noticed neither mines or Dre names were called to pair with anyone else meaning. We were indeed partners. " Ok now that everyone is seated with their partners lets go over the actual project, shall we". Over the next 20 mins Mrs. Delores informed us about our project in which we are to create a menu and come up, with 5 dishes off that menu, that we must cook and display to the class, along with 10 page essay on the creative process of us creating these dishes. It seems easy enough. I looked over at Dre to see him already starting at me, I started to feel a blush come to my face so I put my head down, looking at the assignment at hand. I felt a hand lightly grip my chin and pull it towards their direction. "Alex look at me" I was reluctant to do so but the way he said it made it known he was not playing. I shyly lifted my face meeting his eyes."We gotta project that has to be done, so we have no choice but, to put what's going on with us to the side, and try to get this done love, u hear me". Did he just call me love, I couldn't control myself and let the my blush show evidently on my face, in which he saw. I nodded my head, and released a shaky yes..ss. Well I know for sure what I gotta do just hope I don't brake any hearts on the way.
