Give fire to my songs, oh fair, broad Sea,
For they are chained, lifeless, unworthy.
And as the yawning sun's fiery gaze
Cloths your crests forever ablaze—
In the depths of this wretched citadel,
I pray that in your thoughts I dwell.
Send warmth into the songs of my youth,
Enlighten my visions of the truth—
For you alone cuts pride and falsity,
And for you alone I set my soul free.
