Today's the day
Hotel California performs at the PG Playhouse
They pay tribute to The Eagles
Covering the hits from those good ol days
Not wanting to move into today's wave of music
And needing to live like they were nineteen againThe stage is set up
With shiny guitars and advanced foot petals
And a spot for the drummer at the back
They test the lights
Spotlight and highlight and flood light
With the neons pivoting about
And those small ones that look like specks of glitter
Raining down from aboveBut at the moment it's the before
Making sure everything is set for when patrons start arriving
Bathrooms clean
The front tables in place
And the band comfortable in the basement dressing rooms
Getting a few beers deep into a buzz
So the jitters will go away
And they're ready for when the music can take their soulOver three hundred printed professional band cards sit in the front office
And a motley of markers for signing
Bundled in a blue rubber band
That usually comes on a head of lettuce
Sits on the reused school desk beside them
Waiting to be signed and sold
To those reliving their past musical loveUntil those front doors open
It's quiet here
The clock is being watched for the right timeRight now is the waiting time
The calm before the storm
