"The car with that license plate number was registered to a man named Max Brown. He's been involved in some shady business deals in the past."

Reyes nodded, her eyes fixed on the screen. "We need to find out more about him. Where does he live? Who are his contacts?"

"I'll start looking into it," John said, grabbing a notepad and pen. "But we need to be careful. If Brown is connected to the stolen emerald necklace , he could be dangerous."

Reyes nodded again, her expression serious. "I know. We need to be prepared for anything."

As they worked, John couldn't help but notice how focused Reyes was, her every move precise and calculated. He had always admired her intelligence and bravery, but now he was seeing a new side of her.

As the hours ticked by, they pieced together more information about Max Brown, his associates, and their possible location.

Finally, Reyes left seeing that they gathered sustainable amount of information.

John was in the middle of going through some files in his office when his phone rang. He picked up the call, "Hello?"

"John, it's Agent Carter," came the voice on the other end of the line.

"Agent Carter," John replied, sitting up straight in his chair. "What can I do for you?"

"I just wanted to check in and see how the investigation into the emerald necklace is going," she said.

John cleared his throat, "Actually, I found something interesting about Max Brown. He's been associated with several high-profile art heists over the past few years."

"Max Brown?" Agent Carter repeated. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I ran his name through our database and his criminal record came up," John said.

"Okay, I'll have our team look into it. In the meantime, keep gathering information and let me know if you come across anything else," Agent Carter instructed.

"Will do, Agent Carter," John replied before ending the call. He leaned back in his chair, feeling a sense of satisfaction that he was making progress on the case.

John rushed out of the headquarters, his mind racing with thoughts about Reyes. He needed her help to formulate a plan to retrieve the emerald necklace, but now he had no idea where she was. As he walked out of the building, he saw one of the spies he recognized from the previous day.

"Hey, have you seen Agent Reyes? I need to talk to her," John asked, his voice slightly panicked.

The other spy looked at him quizzically. "Reyes? She left a while ago, said she wasn't feeling well."

John felt a pang of concern. "Did she say where she was going?"

"No, sorry, she just left. But she did mention that she was heading back to her apartment," the spy replied.

John thanked him and quickly made his way to Reyes' apartment. As he walked in, he saw her sitting in the lobby, looking pale and tired.

"Reyes, are you okay?" John asked, rushing over to her.

Reyes looked up, surprised to see John there. "I'm fine, just a little under the weather," she replied weakly.

John frowned, not convinced. "Do you need to go see a doctor?"

Reyes shook her head. "No, I just need to rest. What's going on with the emerald necklace?"

John quickly explained what he had found out about Max Brown and his connection to the stolen necklace. Reyes listened intently, her mind already working on a plan.

"Okay, we need to find out where Max Brown is keeping the necklace. We should tail him and see where he goes," Reyes suggested.

John nodded in agreement. "Let's do it. But first, you should go back to your apartment and rest."

Reyes protested weakly, but John was firm. "No arguments, Reyes. You need to take care of yourself. We'll handle things from here."

With that, John helped Reyes to her feet and escorted her back to her apartment, he stepped inside and began taking in the details of her apartment. It was smaller than he had imagined, but cozy and well-decorated. The walls were painted a soft beige, and the floors were a polished wood. The furniture was modern but comfortable, and there were several colorful throw pillows and blankets scattered around.

A large window in the living room looked out onto a busy street below, and John could see the hustle and bustle of the city beyond. He could tell that Reyes had put a lot of thought and care into her home, and it only made him worry more about her sudden illness and disappearance. He made sure she was comfortable before leaving to begin their plan.

John sat in his office, staring at the wall in deep thought. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about Reyes suddenly feeling ill and leaving the headquarters. It just didn't add up.

He began to recall his conversation with her the day before, when they had promised to take on the lead together. Reyes had been her usual confident self, so he found it strange that she would suddenly fall ill. John couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

He walked over to the spy who had informed him of Reyes' departure and asked if she had seen anything unusual.

The spy shrugged. "Not really. She just looked a little pale and said she wasn't feeling well."
