"John, it's Reyes," she said as soon as he picked up. We need to talk. It's about Agent Carter."
John was quiet for a moment, and Reyes could hear the sound of his breathing through the phone.
"I know," he finally said. "I've been trying to take her down since the diamond incident."
Reyes felt a sense of relief wash over her at John's words. She had always known there was something off about Agent Carter, but she had never been able to put her finger on it. Now, with John's help, she could finally expose the truth and bring Carter to justice.
"What can I do to help?" Reyes asked, eager to get started.
"I have a plan," John said, his voice low and serious. "But it's dangerous, and it's going to require a lot of trust on your part. Are you in?"
Reyes didn't hesitate. "I'm in," she said firmly.
John followed Reyes through the labyrinth of the spy organization headquarters. It was a massive complex, with different sections and levels that all looked the same to John. He was glad to have Reyes by his side, someone who knew the place like the back of her hand.
They finally arrived at a metal door with a biometric lock. Reyes swiped her ID card and put her thumb on the scanner, and the door unlocked with a click. She pushed it open, revealing a dimly lit room with rows of desks and computer screens.
"This is it," she whispered to John. "Agent Carter's office is on the other side of this room."
John nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn't believe he was actually doing this. But he was determined to get to the bottom of Agent Carter's betrayal.
Reyes led him through the rows of desks, avoiding the agents who were busy typing away at their computers. They finally arrived at a small door at the back of the room. Reyes put her ear to the door and listened for a moment, then turned to John and gave him a nod.
John took a deep breath and pushed open the door, stepping into Agent Carter's office. It had always felt empty, with a single desk and computer in the center of the room.
He opened one of the drawers and found a file with the label "Top Secret." He knew that was exactly what they were looking for. He pulled the file out.
Suddenly, Reyes whispered, "John, I found something."
He turned to look at her and saw that she was pointing to the screen. On it was a list of files with names that looked familiar to John. He recognized some of the names from his previous encounters with Agent Carter.
He quickly walked over to the computer and started to scroll through the files. His heart raced as he realized what they had stumbled upon.
"Reyes, this is it! We found the evidence we need to bring her down," he said excitedly.
Just as he finished speaking, they heard footsteps outside the office door. John quickly grabbed the file and handed it to Reyes. He signaled to her to hide it while he hid behind the door.
The door creaked open, and Agent Carter walked in, her eyes darting around the room. She seemed to be searching for something. John could see the surprise on her face as she realized that something was off in the room. Her eyes locked onto the computer screen and saw that some files were open.
John saw her hand reaching for the phone, and he knew that they had to leave immediately. He signaled to Reyes, and they both ran towards the window.
They jumped out of the window, landing on the grass below. They sprinted away from the building, hoping that no one saw them.
