When the two of you finally made it out to the courtyard, you realized you'd forgotten one very important thing. Transportation. You were so used to your solo missions, that it really did not cross your mind. The expansive extent of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the surrounding counties was really just your playground at this point and between the floo flames and your broom, you could get anywhere rather quickly. Not to mention, that was sometimes half the fun of the adventure.
Ominis nearly ran into you as you came to an abrupt stop. Staring at the sky above you, you puzzled, "Ominis, I've made a rather troubling realization."
"Hmm. That is not the type of thing I like to hear before starting an adventure."
"Do you fly?" It seemed almost cruel to put him on a broom so far in the sky. How would he know where he was going? Merlin, if he lost his balance and fell...
"Of course I fly." He said quickly, as if he had read the pity in your voice. "I am a member of one of the oldest wizarding families, ancestors of mine practically invented flying." His tone came off rather snobbish as he continued to boast about his flying skills. You began to feel a bit sheepish of your own at the way he was building up his talent. You supposed it did make sense that being born in such a wealthy, historic wizarding family he would have great practice with certain wizarding rights of passage.
The two of you found an open clearing in the courtyard and took out your brooms. You had never seen him in your flying class before, but you thought that maybe he was just so advanced he had tested out of it. He mounted the broom with ease and listened to hear that you had mounted yours.
"Alright, Ominis! Our destination is just over 60 kilometers North of here. We are attempting to recover a family heirloom necklace that a townsperson believed was stolen during a raid. How should I manage directions in the sky?"
Ominis was hovering just above the ground as he leaned back on his broom. "Not sure this will be any trouble for you, but I suppose I could follow you quite well if you continued talking."
"Ah! Rude!" You mounted your own broom and whizzed past him into the sky. He gave the air in front of him an annoyed look as he began to raise higher to meet you. The higher he rose, however, the more uneasy his face became.
"How far up am I?" He asked, his tone faltering from his cool persona of earlier as his posture began to wilt.
"Just barely off the ground. " You teased.
"That is not fair–"
"You quipped me first!"
"I'm blind!"
"Oh, shut it you two. The art of flying is not just some after-school activity to mess around with!" Imelda called from below you. She was walking with Sebastian and he seemed to have a tired expression on his face. "Be careful with him on that broom, y/n. Do you know what you're doing?" She continued taunting.
"I am not a child. Does no one believe I have flown before?"
"You've been excused from Madame Kogawa's class for five years now. I have never even seen you so much as touch a broom before."
Ominis scoffed and steadied himself on the broom.
"And where do you two think you're off to?" Sebastian asked, his face a hopeless mix of jealousy and pleading to be removed from his conversation with Imelda.
"We're off on an adventure!" You laughed as you called, smile reaching from ear to ear. "Ominis is going to come!"
Sebastian laughed at his joke before it even left his mouth, "Ominis is going to do what now?"
