Friday morning approached as Cheyanne prepared to depart for the University. She stood out by the car with coffee and stared into the sky.
"The first week is almost over already, it feels like so much has happened in such a short time. And I still don't know how to feel about that club..." Cheyanne leaned against the car and exhaled.
"You know, if it's too much of a trouble then I'll come with to make sure they understand." Lucy stood by the entrance with her arms crossed. "I don't want you to be too stressed about these kind of things, Chey."
Cheyanne faced her with a slight grin. "No, it's okay. I'll do it myself and then we can focus on that hero agency whenever it becomes a thing."
Lucy drifted to her and held both arms out. "If you say so then I'll stay here. I hope it goes well, we can visit Ralph too once you get home." She smiled.
"Right... he said that everything was okay but I still feel responsible for not being there. Ralph was there for me when my parents chose to neglect me for being different." Cheyanne clenched her shirt and twisted it into knots. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she choked back on words. "I-It's not fair for an innocent and loving man like him to suffer! And these supernaturals at school wouldn't care if someone like him got hurt."
"Cheyanne... please let me go with you. I don't want them to dog on you when you're already feeling terrible." Lucy frowned and pulled her into a hug. "I understand how you feel, Ralph is like the coolest uncle around and he didn't deserve that. But it's not your fault!" She cried.
Cheyanne wiped her face and chuckled. "D-Don't worry, I was just venting out my emotions. Sorry if it just came spilling out but I'm going to be late. I'll see you once I get home." She kissed Lucy and stepped into the car before waving at her. Once the engine started, she drove away from the apartment complex. Lucy remained in her rearview mirror until several cars emerged.
I still want to be a hero but not like the ones they think about. When our group was saving everyone's butts, we didn't care if you were human or supernatural. Saving the world regardless was always our goal. Cheyanne gripped the steering wheel tightly and pushed on the brakes. After a few minutes, she pulled into the parking lot and spotted Ginny with Range. The two waved as she deeply inhaled and parked the vehicle.
"Good morning! It's nice to see you here and on time, too." Ginny said with a wide grin.
"Yes, we were just thinking since you're the first new member of the semester, we should have a little outing." Range placed his hands behind his back and smiled.
Cheyanne tilted her head. "An outing? Are you sure because I just got here so the school may not know I was present?"
Range shook his head and held a slip. "No worries, this is just a thing between club members. The school won't punish you for being tardy or missing work. So what do you say?"
"Um, well I think an outing would be good to get something off my chest. Sure, what did you have in mind?" Cheyanne left her bag in the car and sipped the rest of the coffee.
"Great, there's a park not too far away from walking distance. Let's head there and discuss our club activities!" Ginny exclaimed.
Range motioned them down a sidewalk and slipped both hands into his pockets. "As President, I must ensure everyone part of the club feels safe and isn't scared of how we operate."
Cheyanne glanced back at the building. "Wait, where are the other members? If this is an outing then shouldn't we all be there?"
"Not necessarily, we didn't want to bug you out with everyone being here so we just came. I hope that's okay." Ginny replied while her tail slowly slid across the sidewalk. Her eyes flicked to the right where Range stood and smirked. Once the trio reached the park, birds scattered and squirrels scurried away. A fountain sprayed water high into the air while clouds rolled in.
