A siren blared when Cheyanne jumped out of bed. She quickly dressed, brushed her teeth, and combed her hair too. Her hands shook while she faced a calendar.
"It's already the seventh! I can't believe a month has passed since we started that challenge. How many missions has it been?" Cheyanne asked.
"Seleph said it was at least over one hundred missions a few days ago. Guess this means the rankings have a lot of adjusting." Tex straightened her vest, adjusted her holsters, and pulled up on her jeans with a grunt. Once she placed her hat on, she tipped it to Cheyanne and chuckled.
Lucy rolled out of bed and stumbled to her feet. "Whew, I'm up! Sorry, we haven't been on that many missions with you this past month, Chey. Our mission has been a real pain in the ass. Ever since we ran into those guys at the parking lot, we've got no new leads." She slipped on a tank top, pulled on her fingerless gloves, and zipped up her leather jeans. The trio rushed out of their room and stumbled into Princess.
Psy shut the door behind her and waved to the group with a smile. "Nice to see everyone here. Guess we're all excited to see the rankings for today?"
"Yep, I got up extra early to make breakfast so we wouldn't have to wait on empty stomachs." Princess giggled to herself. "Even if I haven't changed, the thought of seeing you two higher on the ranks makes me hyped!" She exclaimed.
The group headed to the main lobby where Seleph and Vesper stood. On the left stood Glacier and the other heroes. A light flashed on the screen while the group gathered at the center.
"Good morning, I know everyone here has been waiting for this news for some time." Vesper placed both hands behind her back.
"Yes, I'll just get with the rankings to avoid causing any suspense. The number one hero of the month is..." Seleph held a finger to the screen. "Cheyanne Calentine!"
Cheyanne froze in place as her heart dropped. She pulled Lucy and Tex into a hug before she squealed out loud. "I did it! I really did it! All that hard work paid off and I'm finally the number one hero." Her body tingled while her face reddened.
Glacier slammed her fist into the table as the other names flashed on the screen. "Not only is she first but I've gone down from second to fifth!?" She yelled.
"Looks like I dropped down to second but that's not an issue for me!" Princess smiled at them.
"And I jumped up a lot, look at me being in fourth place! Serves them right for getting too arrogant at the start." Psy leaned back in her seat and rubbed her nose.
Vesper clapped at them. "Again don't take this too seriously but you all did great! We'll have new rankings next month so keep up the hard work!" She exclaimed.
Inferno placed a hand on his neck. "Welp, I did the best from our team so no complaints by me." He snickered.
"Vex is sixth and I'm seventh, we really have slacked this past month." Maximum exhaled while he rubbed his face. "Such an embarrassing display on our end."
"Don't feel too bad, you aren't nearly in a bad mood as Glacier or Surge." Vex crossed her legs, she glanced away from the screen and noticed Surge in a corner.
I can't look at myself or Psy after that incident on the island. My slacking has been unintentional but I cannot bring myself to try. Surge gritted his teeth and kicked at the wall.
Seleph stomped her boots on the floor. "Ahem, so that's all we wanted to show you. There are no new missions today so you are all excused!" She saluted them. "I thank you, heroes, for your work and so does the government."
