Cayden
"No!" Arya gasped. "NO!"
She looked at her mother, who was sobbing, her flawless features twisted into something red and puffy. Everybody was crying. Even Keefe had tears slipping silently down his cheeks. Cayden heart broke at how distraught Arya looked. He walked up to her and hesitantly placed a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm so sorry," he said.
Arya looked at him. "No! Don't be! He can still come back! Sophie can still heal him!" She turned to Sophie. "You can, right?"
Sophie wiped her cheeks. "Well, I haven't done it for years. And I can only do it if Tam has managed to keep a little of his consciousness. But of course I will try."
Fitz was over with Biana. They were next to Delia, who was also crying. Biana was hailing Elwin, telling him everything that just happened. Cayden heard snippets of the conversation, picking up that a lot of Delia ribs had snapped, and that she was having a mental breakdown over Tam.
"Fitz? Are you ready?" Sophie called to him.
"Sorry, what?" he replied.
"I'm gonna try and heal him. Are you gonna help?"
Fitz nodded and wiped away his tears. "Of course."
They went back over to Tam, and Sophie pushed her way into Tam's mind.
Cayden used that time to talk to Arya.
"Hey. They'll get him back." he assured her.
"You think?" Arya asked.
Cayden nodded. "Never doubt the great Sophie Foster!"
Arya let out a small, if sad, laugh.
"Cayden." she said suddenly, looking into his eyes with such pure intensity, it made his heart thump. "I really, really, really like you. I mean, like like you."
Cayden froze. "You... do?"
Arya nodded. "I figured I should probably tell you now, considering this could be my last chance before... we find out whether Dad's fixable."
The last words were barely a whisper. Cayden grabbed her hand.
"Aunt Sophie will fix him. And, for what it's worth... I really like you too."
Arya smiled. Then she leaned forward and softly kissed him. Cayden kissed her back, feeling happy, despite the circumstances. When they pulled back, he saw Arya grinning, wiping away the tears shining on her cheeks.
"Thank you." Arya whispered. "For everything."
Suddenly, Sophie pulled back. Biana rushed over, leaving Elwin with Delia.
"Did you, did you bring him back?" she asked.
Sophie slowly shook her head. 'Not yet. But there is still a chance. Because his mind may be broken, but I think the small part of his consciousness is protected by thick shadows, almost like those shadows he killed Evila with are punishing him, not allowing him to get back. But, I think, if I get past those shadows, I can save him."
Kerry
The next few minutes were stressful. It consisted of everybody getting Tam inside, helping Delia with her injuries, and treating anybody else who had been hurt. Thankfully, most of the injuries were just bruises and cuts. Besides Delia, there were no broken bones. But even though Evila was dead, the battle was still going. The next part was just recovering Tam.
Kerry sat down on the Fosters couch. She had nothing to do. She couldn't help with Tam, she knew nothing about healing injuries, and she didn't know how to support the Vackers. So she sat on the bed, feeling very useless. After a while, Caspian came and sat down next to her.
"How are you going?" he asked her.
Kerry shrugged. "I feel awful for Biana. She's had such a bad history with broken minds, from Alden 20 years ago, to Tam now..."
Caspian nodded. "Yeah. But how do you feel about all this?"
She looked at him. There was something in his stare that made her tell him.
"It's so hard. I mean, I'm glad the part with the Neverseen is over, but seeing the shadow kill her... it was horrible. I feel so, so, sad. Why did it have to go like this?" Kerry blushed. "Sorry. I'm sure you don't want to hear all about my struggles."
Caspian shook his head. "No, no. I asked, didn't I?"
"Yeah."
Then Marcelo walked in, interuppting their conversation.
"Sorry, we're you speaking about something important?" He asked.
Kerry shook her head, "No."
"Okay, cool. Anyway, Sophie's trying with Tam again. I came in to see if you wanted to come and watch," he continued.
Kerry jumped up, "OK, let's go!"
She walked over to Arya, and placed a hand on her shoulder. "She'll fix him. If my aunt can do anything, it's heal broken minds."
Arya smiled sadly. "Let's hope you're right. Otherwise, Evila might have won after all."
