Kai's P.O.V
Once Kai had recollected his thoughts, he tried to lift his aching body from the floor and stand. However, the wound in his leg was too deep and he couldn't stand for more than a second before that leg gave way beneath him. Grabbing the nearest tree for support, Kai cursed under his breath.
I should've known Bonnie would try something like this. He thought to himself but a part of him doubted it. He thought she was finally seeing a new him; a better him. Clearly, his initial thoughts were wrong.
Kai shook himself and looked around. He had to get to that clearing and see if the others were still around. Surely Damon and Elena would help him...
He pushed himself away from the tree and began walking, slowly and painfully, to the spot where they first arrived. Whilst walking Kai's mind started to wander and suddenly a woman appeared in his mind. This woman was smiling and laughing at him with little creases forming around her nose as she did so. Her green eyes shone brightly with joy and she pushed her black hair out of her face as she stared longingly at Kai.
Smiling to himself, he continued to shuffle forward subconsciously while his mind stayed on the woman. A woman he had come to know as Emily, a daughter of the Devil. Even though they'd only met recently, she had such an impact on Kai that he found himself reliving their last conversation with huge guilt.
"My point is, clearly you care for her more than you care for me."
Suddenly, Kai remembered the look of pain he had seen in Emily's eyes when he laughed. He wasn't laughing at her; he was laughing at what she said. How could she think he had feelings for Bonnie? It was ridiculous! The only reason he was even talking to her was for his own selfish need to get rid of the guilt he had suddenly started feeling. He thought that maybe if Bonnie could forgive him, he'd finally stop feeling so damn guilty all the time!
Then, without warning his mind continued the previous conversation:
"So, why are you even with me?"
Kai's stomach was fluttering as Emily's face appeared once more before him. He realised that when he pictured her, the images were of the happy times they spent together. Particularly that day out when it was just the two of them and there were no others to intrude or ruin their perfect picnic. He knew that with Emily he could be himself; the Kai he used to be when stuck in his prison world, and she would still be with him.
Well, that was until that night in the club.
I shouldn't have laughed. I should've reassured her that I didn't have feelings for Bonnie... He thought to himself as he continued ambling through the forest. Of course, he regretted what he did because it hurt Emily. And seeing that woman hurt was like no other pain Kai had ever felt.
Something cold and wet leaked from Kai's eyes. He quickly lifted a hand and brushed away the salty tears. No, he told himself, I will not cry because I hurt some girl.
But this isn't just some girl... This is Emily. As if his heart were arguing back, it began to pound against his chest. Her smile melts your ice-cold heart. Her laugh brings joy to your otherwise miserable life. But the best thing is that she allows you, and likes you, to be you; Malachai Parker, the psychotic witch who killed his own family for power...
"NO!" Kai shook his head violently, put his hands on either side of his temple and squeezed as if trying to rid himself of these thoughts. The pain he was causing himself soon distracted him enough to realise faint voices could be heard not far away.
His pace quickened but he couldn't go far before his leg brought his eagerness to an abrupt halt. He held onto the nearest trunk to support himself once more and peered through the trees. Four figures stood in the clearing. He still had time!
"Bonnie!" he shouted, pushing through the foliage and ignoring the pain that coursed through his leg.
As he emerged from the greenery, Bonnie lifted her head and paused the chanting. Hope brewed inside of him, but her smirk stopped him dead in his tracks. Then a flash of light appeared, and Kai held up his hand to defend his eyes from the searing glare. When the light had faded and Kai dropped his arm, he noticed that his one hope of leaving this world was gone.
He sunk to the floor in a crumpled mess. Though the pain in his leg was excruciating, he couldn't feel it over the pain in his heart. This time, when the tears streamed down his face, he made no attempt to wipe them away.
He was alone. Again.
After a while, the sun began to set and the orange glow of the evening faded. Even though this was a prison world and he was the only one inside, Kai didn't like the dark and emptiness of the forest. He willed his aching body to get up and, once he was semi-stable, stumble away from the clearing to find shelter.
Eventually, after many curses and trips, Kai found a house on its own. This must be Damon's mother's house, he thought as he climbed the steps to the front door. He pushed on the wooden barrier and it opened with a dull, creak. As soon as he stepped inside, he felt a chill. It was quiet, eerily quiet.
Bored out of his mind, Kai decided to do some snooping. Perhaps he'll be able to find a way out of this place? Or he might find something interesting on Damon's mother that could occupy his time here? Either way, he wasn't about to sit on his ass and do nothing.
As he made his way through the house, Kai couldn't stop thinking about Emily. There was a throbbing in his heart when her face came to mind. What hurts him most about Bonnie leaving was that she took away his hope of ever seeing Emily's face again, of touching what he once held dear. It was all gone.
But the truth was revealed.
In a prison world, in an abandoned house, Kai finally understood his own feelings. The reason he was so intent on getting Bonnie to like him was that she was Emily's friend. And getting Emily's friends to like him was important because they were important to her. And she was important to him. Emily was the only girl in the world Kai actually cared about. No, she was the only girl in the world that he loved. He had to tell her. Even if it killed him, he had to get out of this prison world. He had to see his Emily again.
Engrossed in his own trance, Kai didn't realise where he was until the darkness consumed him. He was in a near pitch-black attic. The only light came from the floor below him. He backtracked, grabbed a lantern from a nearby table and lit it with the magic word: Incendia. With this dim light, Kai continued to wander around the room and scan its contents. Suddenly, the witch bumped into something.
Gasping slightly, he lifted the candle higher and saw six humans sat at a round table. Curiosity got the better of him and, after placing the candle in the centre of the table, he leaned in closer to the man he collided with. This man's face was covered in age wrinkles and though his body was like a statue, his eyes locked onto Kai's.
Though he was terrified of what these people were, he couldn't resist the temptation to examine them further. Like a moth to a flame, Kai lifted a hand and reached towards the man hesitantly. Barely inches from the face, Kai's attempt to touch the man was short-lived when another unseen hand grabbed his neck.
Before he blacked out, the beautiful image of the demoness smiling at him appeared once more...
