Universe

-Universe.- [To: my universe. Meet you in parallel.]

You were never mine, to begin with.

Your songs belonged to him,

Your poems you read me too

Were his to begin with.

But I really did hope that a day would arrive

When you would join me

On this journey called life,

Not as a pillar I could lean on

But as the "home", I could heal in.

Though I knew better than to hope.

I thought that those songs,

The words of affection of yours

Could be mine one day.

So, I dreamed of a parallel reality.

Where I could have the pleasure of holding your hand

And kissing your tears goodbye,

Of drifting to sleep

And seeing you hug the pillow by my side.

I know the truth of reality,

That you could never be mine.

For he to you is your universe

And I am just a plant in the garden

Of your home with him.

So I lie, I have been lying

Since the date, I met you.

As I knew the very second my heart forgot to beat

That you could never be mine,

A mere earthling, like myself,

Can never touch the moon but can only dream.

And so I do, every time I see you with him,

I close my eyes,

As I begin to feel my soul empty itself,

I play the scene, I had once dreamed,

Try to soothe my dying flesh which tries to beat

And fails.

Maybe another life,

Maybe another universe,

I could be someone who has the privilege

To hold your hand, interlock the fingers,

Then kiss your knuckles

And pull it into the pocket of my hoodie.

To hug you from behind

As you try to concentrate on work.

To gift you my heart,

As you teach it to beat again.
