What if Natty didn't go splatty???Early mornings like these were Natasha's favourite, the rain softly blew against the window and lulled the household into an almost silent state. The wind bustling and brushing against the trees outside, where their daughter's treehouse was situated against her swing set and old paddling pool. Natasha made a mental note to fix the ladder to the tree house later on in the day, after work, as the wood had become rotten and stripped it of its sunny yellow paint.
Natasha Romanoff was the only one awake in the house. Early mornings had been drilled into her since the Red Room. She thought Ohio would be her only escape, her only family. But she was so wrong. She smiled, Grateful with how her life had played out, Maria was curled up into her arms. An arm wrapped around her Natty's stomach, legs entangled with each other. Their love keeping them warm on the chilly September day. Maria had begun to stir awake, Natty looked down and clumsily smiled at her wife. Ever since Maria had decided to grow her hair out, she woke up with it all tangled and all over her face every morning. Nat chuckled at he lover's attempt to brush it out of her eyes and so Nat gently pulled it back, kissing the top of her head.
"Good morning, sleepy head" she whispered into Maria's ear, brushing their noses against each other as an act of endearment. Maria simply grunted in return, her eyes still full of sleep and for a second she began to fall back to sleep. Natasha's warmth wrapped around her like a blanket, Nat simply nudged her with her shoulder, "Masha" she tried, "Mashaaaaa" she whispered louder this time, Maria opened her eyes in return.
"Yes baby?" Maria's eyes gleaming up at Natasha, innocent, god she was so cute Natasha thought.
"We have to get up now, busy day and all" Natasha began to stretch her legs underneath the covers
Maria simply huffed, kicked her leg over Nat's and pulled her tighter and closer towards her. Natasha giggled at her childish behaviour, Maria was only ever like this with her and the 'Ice Queen' with any one else, exempt their daughter and Nick and a few other close friends. "Mmmm no Nat, we don't" she sighed, her attempts to sleep more was futile.
"Mmmmmm" Natasha copied her wife, earning a grumpy look from Maria, "We do, Mia it's her first day back to school, we can't be late"
"Yeh, you're right, God why are you always right?" Natasha laughed at Maria's words, kissing her again before yanking the covers of them, Maria frowning again. She really did look like a grumpy cat.
"Turn that frown upside down, Ice Queen" she teased
"Shut up, Ratty Natty" Maria replied laughing, Natasha hated that nickname. " I'll go wake her up, You make coffee. Now" Maria demanded.
"your wish is my command" Natasha threw a pillow at her wife before racing out of the room and straight down the stairs to avoid her wife's retaliation, laughing the whole way down. She knew if Maria did not have her morning coffee she would be extra 'Ice Queen-ish' at work today, and the new set of recruits would not appreciate that. At all.
Maria tip toed into her daughters room, not wanting to wake her up yet. She had taken after Maria in that respect, neither of them were morning people. Even on Christmas day they refused to get up early, sleep was very important to them both of them. They both had the same grumpy morning face, which never failed to make Natasha awe at the sight of them both. Maria took in the sight of her daughter fast asleep, appreciating every moment. Their daughter was no longer little anymore and it scared her, she was growing up. Having just turned double digits on her tenth birthday a few months prior.
"Little Red" she whispered, their daughters nickname, "Little Red, school". Her daughter began to wake, giving her mom a weak smile, not entirely happy about her waking her up at this hour. She reached her arms out to hug her mom, still smiling softly.
"g'Morning Momma" she sighed groggily, she hugged her mom tightly, "M' missed you" Maria smiled, their daughter did this every morning, saying she missed them even though they tucked her in every night.
"come on Red, we've got to make you breakfast and get ready. You know what Mama is like" she teased, her daughter quietly laughing in response.
"Yeh, she'll freak if we're late" she answered, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Maria was so confused as to how she ended up being the 'easy going, care- free' parent and Natasha the stricter parent. Everyone around them assumed that because Maria was so uptight at work she'd do the same in her parenting methods but somehow she was worse than Red, they always got into mischievous situations and Nat finding them doing something silly like stealing from the cookie jar and drawing on her bedroom walls in marker pen, but Natasha only pretended to tell them off when truthfully she loved the pair of them and their shenanigans.
"That she will Red" she brushed her daughters hair behind her ears before coming up with genius plan "if you brush your teeth and get dressed super fast we can leave early and get breakfast from that new pancake place!" Her eyes lit up and she nodded fervently. Maria rushed out of the room to her own room to get dressed before rushing back in "Don't tell Mama!", knowing Natasha had told them just recently to cut down on the sugar, after they ate three packets of jolly ranchers between them and broke the flower vase whilst chasing each other around the house with a football in their hyper state. She turned round back into the hallway and bumped into Nat, the smile on her face completely wiped off. She was so caught.
"Don't tell mama what?" Natasha grinned
