Mad Hatter (Dazai x reader)

Chapter 5

Oda managed to calm Kanae down, although he knew that she was fake whining all along.

Kanae then sat on Oda's right side, while Dazai sat on Oda's left side. Both of them didn't speak a word to each other.

Kanae and Dazai both ate their own curry.

"Ahh! It's spicy. I ordered mild spice, this is definitely not that," Dazai commented. He took several sips of water.

Oda: Still can't handle the spice? 

Dazai: It's as if there's lava inside the curry. It's hot and spicy. Odasaku, how can you eat your curry? 

Oda: I don't know. I just eat it without thinking much. Dazai: That's not what I was expecting...

Kanae finished her curry and asked for more green tea.

"Odasaku, how did you and Dazai meet?" Kanae asked, drinking her tea.

Oda was about to answer but Dazai stopped him. "Odasaku, how did you and Arisu meet?" He asked.

Kanae stopped Oda from answering Dazai.

Oda: Come on, both of you. Why can't you two get along? 

Kanae: I just don't want him to know more about me than I know about him. 

Dazai: Same thing. Oda: Then how about this, you each ask a question, the other must answer. 

Kanae: What if it's too personal? 

Oda: Then you can deny it. 

Dazai: Who goes first?

Silence. Neither of them want to go first.

Kanae: It's hard to trust the Demon Prodigy of the Port Mafia. 

Dazai: Likewise, it's hard to trust the Mad Hatter. Oda: Then how about I tell both of you how I met each of you? 

Dazai: Who's story first? 

Oda: Dazai's first since I met him later. 

Dazai: Haa? (はああ?) Shouldn't you start with the person whom you knew the longest? 

Oda: To me it doesn't really matter, since I will tell both of you how I met each of you. It's only a matter of time. 

Dazai: Fine. Go ahead. 

Oda: I met Dazai when he was first wounded outside of my house back then. I took him in, nursed his wounds and he stayed with me for a couple of days. Then I showed him to the bar that I usually go to. He was the one who recommended that I join the Mafia. 

Kanae: That's it? 

Oda: That's the summary I guess, I don't think Dazai will be comfortable if I reveal more details. Now, on to how I met Kanae. 

Kanae: This is going to be so embarrassing...

Oda: Kanae was lost in Yokohama. I talked to her while guiding her to a taxi stand nearby. We met the next day at a cafe and we talked again. That's how I became friends with Kanae. 

Dazai: Hahaha! Even the Mad Hatter is able to get lost in Yokohama! 

Kanae: You're the same. Even the Demon Prodigy is able to get all wound up! 

Dazai: Well, at least I didn't get lost.

Kanae shook her head at Dazai's comment and finished her green tea.

"Kanae, you're acting so normal today, you usually will have a few cryptic messages or say the opposite of what you mean," Oda asked.

"I have to act more normal in front of the mummy-like executive. Besides, he saw me going all crazy and stuff yesterday during the mission," Kanae replied and ordered oolong tea.

No one said anything after that.

Kanae finished her oolong tea and paid for her lunch. "I'll leave now. See you later at night, Odasaku," Kanae said and left the shop.

After Dazai made sure Kanae left, he asked "Does Arisu act crazy on a daily basis?"

"I guess so," Oda replied.

"Interesting, a Mad Hatter who's mad on a daily basis only to those that she deem as friends, or when she's working," Dazai said, interested in Kanae.
