A pack of dragons among the fairies

Chapter 9

Natsu was beyond the point of anger. The day after he, Happy and Lucy slept together for more safety, Jett and Droy got attacked by a Phantom Lord wizard. When he went to rescue his comrades the dragon slayer smelled something familiar and yet unknown on them. Almost like Laxus's smell when he first met him.

They had been attacked by a dragon slayer.

Once the shock of not being the last one except for Laxus passed, Nastu saw red. How dare he touched his family like that? the young wizard could feel a violent and powerful fire burning inside of him. Only waiting to destroy the enemy that dared to attack his friends on his pack's territory.

Claws were starting to grow at the end of his fingers and he could feel his teeth growing sharper than ever. A loud growl got out of his mouth as he was ready to go tear Phantom Lord apart, especially their dragon slayer.

Then, out of a sudden, he felt a warm and soft hand taking his. Someone was hugging him from the back. Natsu took a deep breath and calmed a little when Lucy's smell came to his nose.

"It will be okay Natsu. No one can beat Fairy tail remember? They don't stand a chance against us." The blonde said softly, hugging the dragon slayer.

Her sweet and comforting voice helped him to tame the fire. Slowly his fangs went back to their normal size and his claws went back to their human nail shapes.

Next to him where Makarov, he looked furious too, and with a cold voice he declared war on Phantom Lord. Natsu smiled at that, now he could beat them up. He felt Lucy shivering against his back and turned to hug her correctly. No one will arm her, ever.

"Don't worry Luce, I'll protect you! Those bastards won't be able to lay a single claw on you." He said purring against the celestial wizard's neck.

Lucy forced a smile on her face, she wasn't a damsel in distress but seeing Natsu so clingy and caring with her set her heart racing. But at the same time, she was wondering if a war was the right solution. She heard Mira and Erza talking, Phantom Lord was as powerful as Fairy Tail. A war would mean loss and the celestial wizard couldn't afford to lose anyone else.

Everything went really quickly after the master declared war with the Phantom Lords. Lucy was trying to comfort Levy first, she was blaming herself for not being with her teammates when they got attacked. Then everyone went to Phantom Lord's headquarters, ready to avenge their comrades.

Natsu wanted to go with Lucy and refused to leave her alone at first but when she insisted to stay with Levy to watch the guild and Jett and Droy, he gave up. He didn't like it but Lucy was a strong wizard and Levy was too. They could watch out for each other while he was going to fight the bastards that hurted his family. Besides she would kick his ass if he tried to protect her by being too close.

"Be careful," Lucy said, holding Natsu's hand with a sad smile.

"Pfft, I always am!" Natsu said with a small laugh and a bright smile.

Levy was watching her friend with a cunning expression and when Lucy got back after the dragon slayer's departure she teased her.

"So Lu, you didn't tell me you had a thing for Natsu."

Her friend's reaction was quicker than Levy expected. In a matter of seconds, she became as red as a tomato and started blabbering incomprehensible words. The little booklover laughed, amused by Lucy's reaction. It was good to think about something else than this war.

"It's nothing like that!" The celestial wizard answered, nervously waving her hand in the air.

"I'm sure Laxus would find it funny to know that Natsu is interested in someone like that," Levy said still laughing and trying to imagine the S-class wizard's reaction.
