"Oh god, I hope that Mr. Malak isn't here." Said Lehman as she bites her finger nails shaking. "Do you think that his aware of our absence?" Isiah continued. Without saying a word I just pressed the elevator button leaving those two gain anxiety. "AssalamAlkuim. I'll see you later." I said. Btw we are not in the same deportment. They are junior reporters and I'm not all thanks to my experience. See? It does help.
When the door opened, I saw no one. I walked around hoping to see at least a soul. Everyone seem to be invisible expect for my heels on the floor. Well that's weird said my inner voice. Usually its rush hour here.
"There you are." I turned around and saw Ms. Mania at the other side of the room. "Well finally." She started walking towards me in face paced. "Ms. Mania? Where are the others?" "In a meeting."
"A meeting! For what?" "Well you certainly seem to be nervous." She said with a smirk on her face. "Ugh, Ms. Mania, Of course. I mean how can I not be? I'm going to die today."
"No your not sweetie." Ugh, she cant be serious. "If I were you, I would get my butt in there right now!." "Okay, but can you at least tell me what the meeting's about?" "I can't, you know I'm not even allowed to be in there." "You didn't even hear a word?" "Nope." "Ugh, did it just start no-" she cut me off. "Listen Janne, your only wasting your time questioning me. Get in there." Janne? Really she can't even say my name right. "It's Jannah. And your right."
I left the room and walked to the meeting room's section in hope that there will be less people. NOPE! I'm diffidently wrong there are a billion people. All eyes on me just because I'm wearing a Hijab. The worst part? My heels wanted to bring attention. Ugh I choose the wrong day to wear heels.
I sat down next to Rebecca. A close office friend of mine. She gave me a half smile. "Where were you?" She whispered through her teeth in hope of not being caught. "The train had some issues." I whispered back. But guess what? I'm a horrible whisper. She knows it very well so she didn't let me ask her what the meeting was about instead she just told me.
"Mr. Malak is going to promote someone." I looked at her with my eyes widened. "Today?" I said quietly pointing my fingers down. She nods her head two times.
~ Mr Malak, is our boss. What surprises me is that his not old. He looks about the age of 24. I know right? How surprising? I guess he had a lot of experiences too. And no his not a Muslim. His father is however, thats why we call him Mr. Malak, by his last name.~
"The position for the promotion is Ms. Kate's." Everyone widened their eyes and opened their mouths. including me. "What?" Whispered Rebecca as she smirked. Ms. Kate looked at Mr. Malak with a shocked heartrending face expression. I honestly wanted to laugh from her face expression. If this was a cartoon show, her mouth would have been on the floor right now.
Kate, is my arch enemy. I can't stand her. I hate show offs more than anything, and guess what? That's the quality she posses. She bosses everyone around especially me. I can't wait for someone else to boss her. "The decision will be out in the evening.
"Now everyone please get back to your work." I stood up hiding behind a few of my co workers hoping that Mr. Malak hasn't noticed me.
"Jannah?" I turned around and saw Ahmed poking me on shoulder. Ugh I hate it even more when men touch me. My body gets so cold and I just shiver. "Don't touch me." "Oh yeah sorry. Mr. Malak is calling you to his office." What why? Ya Allah! "Okay. Thanks." He nods with a simple smile and walks away.
"So what do you think he wants to talk about?" I looked over my shoulder and saw Essa. I smiled at him "AssalamAlkuim." "WalkumSalam. I don't know. But whatever it is, I hope that I don't get in trouble." "Insallah you wont." He said as he walked away. I continued to walk. When I finally got there, Mr. Ran opened the door for me. I entered in and saw Mr. Malak.
