Elaine's POV

I let Edward read my thoughts long enough to let him know Carlisle can come into the tent. Bella leaves swiftly, wanting to be with Edward after the battle.

Carlisle is in right away, not sparing a second. I see him and immediately I want to break down. I want to be the girl in the books who is vulnerable with her husband, the one who hugs him after a long day and cries into his shoulder. I know though that our battle is not over yet and if I break down before the Volturi shows, I will be doing no good for either of us.

" Elaine." He whispers, taking in the sight of me. He looks broken like he just saw a hit puppy on the side of the road. I shake my head.

"I'll be okay. Don't worry about me, just need some help making it back." I mutter, trying to downplay as much as possible. He looks at me, skeptical. Sighing, he kneels down to be in front of me, motioning for me to scoot into his arms. I do so, he lifts me up, and being in his arms is the best feeling in the world.

" Thank you for coming to get me," I whisper, taking in his smell.  I can see him tense as I wince at his hand grazing the back of my head and I can tell he had no idea that I was hurt under the hat.

Edward and Bella are already gone by the time we make it out of the tent. I am happy about this as the bright light from the sun makes me cringe into Carlisle and I can feel him wince.

He gets ready to run down the hill,  "Are you sure that you are going to be okay." He whispers, knowing that running might make me dizzy. I nod slightly and bury my face into his chest, getting ready for the nausea that is soon to follow.

I feel the wind and suddenly, we are in the field with the others. Carlisle doesn't let me go, probably concerned I am going to pass out. Alice and Rose are by our side right away, Alice is trying to pull the hat off my hair, probably knowing that I hurt it in the fight but I mutter for her to stop, knowing that if Carlisle sees the full extent of my injuries, it will distract him from the Volturi. I know he is quietly examining my wrist as he looks down at me.

"Mom, we need to get you out of here. You're going to go with Sam, so the Volturi doesn't see you like this." Alice states. I knew what she meant by this, vulnerable.

Carlisle reluctantly hands me over to Sam who is waiting to grab me. He holds me close, I can feel his warmth, it feels good against my battered body.

" Hey, Sammie." I whisper I can feel him relax when he hears my voice and this makes me feel better.

All of a sudden, we hear a commotion to our left and Edward screaming, "Leah. Don't!"

One of the leftover newborns, one that might have been missed, jumped out from the woods, getting ready to attack. Leah was about to get crushed trying to intervene. All of a sudden, a large brown wolf jumps in the middle of the two, attacking. It's Jacob. I can tell from the times I have seen him as a wolf.

" Jacob!" Bella screams. I hear the sickening sound of bones crushing. I wince into Sammie and am handing back to Carlisle as Sam runs to check on his pack member.

Jacob is already transforming back when I turn my head and Carlisle tightens his grip.

I hear him whining in pain.

"Jacob you're so stupid. I almost had it." I hear Leah sneer in frustration.
"Not now, Leah." Sam cuts her off, using his alpha voice. She is forced to listen.

Jacob is rolling around in pain, crying and Bella has run towards him, also crying. Edward is comforting her. She is looking around trying to think of anything to stop his pain. Anything. If the roles were reversed and my best friend was laying there, dying in front of me, I would do the same.

I wiggle my way slowly out of Carlisle's hold and although he knows what is about to happen and wants to stop it, he knows this is one of our own that will die without my help.

I touch the ground and am instantly dizzy. Carlisle steadied me as I made my way toward the hurt boy.

I bend down above him, Bella is looking at me in distress, knowing what happened the last time I healed someone in this type of shape.

"Wait. No, Carlisle, she can't." Carlisle hushed her in the process and for the first time in a long time, I am not afraid to use my gift. I have his full support to heal this boy.

I put my hands above Jacob and concentrate on the healing process, picturing the bones healing, picturing the pain going away. It flows out of me. I breathe slowly and I can see Jacob calm slowly. He is relaxing and I can see the rest of the wolves relaxing with them but Carlisle is tense at my side. Finally, I feel the process end.  As soon as the process is over, I immediately throw up to the side, throwing up blood, violently. Carlisle holding my hair back.

" Breathe, Baby. Just breathe." He whispers, rubbing my back as I puke.

" Carlisle, the Volturi are minutes from here. The wolves need to go. So does Elaine."

I look up at  Alice after she says this, knowing blood is lining my mouth.

"Sam, make sure Jacob gets back okay," I mutter and Edward is on my other side in a flash.

"Lane, you have to go with them, you know the Volturi is waiting for the chance to get you, any excuse, they will take. " He whispers quietly. I look up to see the family, all looking down at me kneeling in the field still concerned and I nod, slowly getting up with the help of both Edward and Carlisle.

" Boys, take Jacob back, make sure he rests. Elaine, come on." They help me to Sam, who picks me up and starts to carry me off the field. While I am being carried off the field, I notice a girl standing in the field, wide-eyed, she is a newborn and you can tell she is struggling hard with the smell of my blood, but she is resisting. Passing Esme, I grab onto her arm, she looks at me.

"Keep the girl safe," I whisper. She looks over to Bree and nods.

With this, I am taken off the field and carried on the way to the reservation.
