Elaine's POV
The day after the battle, I was sore. I was still incredibly fast at healing but I took a lot of damage during the fight. My wrist, although still a little bruised and swollen, was starting to already feel better. Bella had been there when I woke up from the whole ordeal. She let me know, relief leaking in her voice, that Jake was doing well. He had even been well enough to call her and continue his begging of her not to marry my brother.
Although I wanted the union of Bella and Edward, I understood where Jake was coming from, especially after their kiss before he went to the field. It was hard to imagine that Bella wasn't feeling some sort of confusion towards the situation herself, though she assured me that she was one hundred percent resolved on spending the rest of eternity with my brother. With that being said, she and Eddie were out, talking in their special meadow about preparations for the celebration, I could hear Alice's squeal from the driveway as Bella agreed to get married in August, just a couple of months away from now, and a month away from her 19th birthday.
Bella's continuing obsession with age was definitely something that Edward was keeping me awake about, ever since he first popped the question. He was excited to marry her but was insistent that they could be married for a couple of years and she could experience more human years.
Thinking of all this, I roll my neck, letting the warm water from the shower roll over my body. It felt amazing. All the dirt, tears, and anxiety that the battle produced seemed to wash off with the water. Esme was still here, though Derick had decided to return back to their estate and make sure all was well with the friends they were currently traveling with. Esme had also been hovering since I woke. When Bella left, she was at the door. I was hoping to get a moment alone but I think Carlirlse had insisted on someone being with me as he went for a long overdue hunt. He had been nervous to leave me leading up to the fight, so he hadn't hunted since before the Seattle trip. He really shouldn't go that long between feedings, I had tried to tell him I was fine and could handle things by myself but he didn't seem too convinced. He did seem impressed with my fighting skills after the battle, especially when Alice told him I had done decently well on holding my own against Riley.
Esme was humming from the dressing room, where she was lazily sitting on the ottoman, looking through a Better Home and Garden magazine that I had ensured we had for when she arrived. She had told me before I stepped into the shower that it was just in case I felt faint, due to the blood loss from Riley's bite and the exhaustion that followed using my powers. During the late hours of last night, I had an idea of how I could test out my powers again, it would be tricky. After fixing Jake and nearly throwing up my body weight in blood, I am hesitant that Carlisle will ever let me use my powers again. This is why it was my suggestion that he left me in Esme's capable hands when he left earlier. With Edward out of the house, it was a perfect time to make my plan known.
Dean and Sam were downstairs with Alice, she had insisted on keeping them busy until I was capable of standing again. I couldn't believe they were here, the horror they witnessed yesterday made my stomach turn. They let me know about how they had caught the final moments of the Volturi speaking with the rest of our family. How threatening they seemed to Bella, and most importantly, that they killed Bree, the young girl I had only caught a short glimpse of before healing Jake.
