Elaine's POV
I find myself in Emily's kitchen, sitting on a chair right next to the garbage can. Waiting to see if I throw up and more. Emily is rubbing my back, calming me, trying to ensure that I drink water.
Sammie is at the Black's house, after much convincing from both of us, we got him to go and check on Jacob. I knew Jacob would be okay now, I could feel the healing process take place as it had with Bella so long ago. He was going to make a full recovery.
Emily is quiet for a moment, trying to give me time to recover. I look down to my wrist which is now turning a faint black and blue. It is healing faster than a normal person would but even so, I know Carlisle will have to examine it later, and if the bone does not heal the way it should, rebreaking would need to take place, a task that made me shiver not only thinking about my pain but thinking about Carlisle's.
I look up at the sink, watching the water drops fall from the faucet, trying to focus on them to take away from the urge to throw up again.
Emily offers me some water, I take a little sip, not wanting to overdo it but knowing I would need it.
I keep thinking back to the girl in the field, the young newborn. She looked so confused and scared and I could not help but feel for her.
"Are you doing okay, Elaine? Do you feel faint at all?" Emily asks from behind me. I shake my head. I didn't feel the urge as strongly as before.
I keep staring at the faucet, hoping the feeling would soon disappear completely.
Carlisle's POV
Esme tried her hardest to save the young girl in the field, she really did. The Volturi decided we could not grow in numbers and killed the girl in front of us. Her scream was similar to the one Elaine I suffered through earlier.
To our surprise, they don't burn the body. They leave it there, a proud display of their terror.
If Esme could cry, she would be sobbing into Dericks's shoulder.
Alice and Jasper stand silent, as do Rose and Jasper. Edward had rushed Bella home after we spoke with the Volturi, wanting to get her out of the cold for a bit before she went to visit Jacob. I was hoping there would be no damage left to the poor boy, that Elaine's magic had worked.
I decided to take my leave, running towards the house so that I can grab my medical equipment before heading to the reservation.
I take a breath when I make it to my office, making sure to pack everything that might be needed. If Jacob's bones didn't heal correctly for some reason, I would have to rebreak them, I kept saying this to myself as I packed the essentials for such an event. I knew the bigger possibility was that Elaine's wrist hadn't healed correctly. That I would have to break her bone tonight. The thought of it makes me want to throw up, I would if I could.
I walk down the stairs and out onto the driveway, get into my car, and start the drive to the reservation, silent the whole time. If Elaine were here, she would complain that we need to play music. I pass the treaty line, knowing Sam knows I will be at the Black's house soon. I had just gotten off the phone with him before I had left the field. He stated that Elaine was doing much better, she had thrown up for the first thirty minutes of returning to the house and then her body calmed down.
I pull into the Black's driveway and all is calm, the wolves are hanging around the outside, speaking about the battle that just ensued.
I close my door lightly, not wanting to wake Jacob inside who I am sure is trying to get some rest.
