CHAPTER 24

Fred, Paige and JJ packed up and made their way to the airport. Kevin had texted Paige where to bring the software, so all Fred had to do was borrow a plane from a fellow soldier to fly them out there. JJ was still pissed that Nate ran out on them. Nate owed JJ for saving his life a few years back and he put his trust in The Bull by telling him everything. Everything about his past and Kevin and for him to run out like that, it drove the Cajun almost over the edge. At least he could help Paige, and take out Kevin and possibly the Russian group. The same russian group involved with the Cartel. That would be one less enemy he would have to go through to get to Marina and her people. The whole situation was a mess.

Fred piloted the small plane towards the small country of Chernobyl. The place where the Ukraine rebel group got its start possibly. JJ heard rumors from Vespa about how her father's partners, Vladimir, the man who put the group together, was involved in the great nuclear event. The great disaster of the Chernobyl radiation leak.The city of Pripyat, a town in Ukraine where the nuclear disaster that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The whole reason that the rebel group formed. Vladimir, along with others, were furious about the whole cover up and decided to take a stand. He formed a group and vowed to take down and take over the Russian government. They wanted them to pay for the death of their families and the destruction of their home. Their noble cause turned criminal, just like JJ's endeavor.

JJ looked over at Paige and could see she was hurting. He reached over and held her hand to comfort her. She was one to keep everything in, sort of like Nate, but the girl was much kinder. JJ could tell Paige was torn up by this world she was thrown into, but the girl kept a fighting spirit. He could also tell she cared a lot for Nate.

"Don't let him get to you, Paige. He's the one who left and it had nothing to do with you. Nate is just bull headed and wants things his own way. Don't worry, I'm here to help you and together we can take out that snake, Kevin." Paige leaned over and rested her head on Johnny's shoulder. She was so glad that Johnny was there to help her and comfort her. The whole time with Nate, she had to remain so hard and tough and with JJ, she felt she could show that she was hurting.

"We should be there in about three hours, so rest up mates." Fred turned to inform them, JJ nodded and patted Paige's hand.

"Don't worry, we are not stormtroopers, we know how to shoot..." He smiled at Paige. Paige had no idea what he was even talking about but not to be rude, she let a small laugh. The remainder of the fight was silent, except for the music blaring in JJ's earbuds. Music was the only way he could drown out his anxiety, paranoia, and demons. He just wanted this over with so he could deal with Marina and get back to a normal life, but deep down he knew he would never be normal and nothing would ever be the same again. The Cajun was most likely going to end up in jail or dead.

Fred landed the plane, just outside the deserted city. They were to meet Kevin at the Polissya Hotel, not far from where they landed. The sun had sunk low and the chilly night air rolled in. Paige kept her hands in her pockets with a death grip on the drive. JJ walked along side of her, his gas mask on top of his head while his other weapons were hidden from sight. Fred walked a bit ahead of them, scouting the area as they walked through the abandoned city. It looked like something out of a horror show. The buildings were rubble and overgrown with nature and the streets were an eerie quiet.

The large hotel peeked out of the distance and made the Cajun's heart sink a little. He knew they were most likely walking into a trap, but he wasn't going to go down without a fight. He knew what he was getting into, the moment he allowed Kevin to lead him to Marina. He just didn't know Kevin was going to backstab him. JJ looked around at the deserted town. The radiation of the area would be the least of his worries. It was the criminals that were there to kill them. Just like JJ figured, a figure stepped out in front of them. Frederick stopped in his tracks and braced himself for a fight. JJ stepped in front of Paige, a bit ready to backup Fred, if need be. Fred and the male just eyed each other like out of an old western, waiting for the other to draw. "Where is the Bull?" A voice came from behind JJ and Paige. The two spun around to see Nic standing behind them. If this was Nic, than Vito was the six foot five monster in front of Fred.
