CHAPTER 35
JJ Tried to wrap his head around everything that happened. Years worth of searching for his brother's killer, and killing as well as trying to get to Marina, It was all over with in a matter of seconds. Marina could have killed him easily, but JJ was reminded of a sermon. 'We are kept alive because the old man was dead. We are covered with the blood of Jesus. God will keep the new man alive, the new creature in Christ, the one that now serves him. Death in repentance, burial in baptism and made a new creature by the Holy Spirit.'
Months later agent Jefferson had enough evidence to lock up the rest of the Alvirez Cartel, along with their members. JJ and Nathaniel were pardoned on all crimes, since the two testified against the Cartel and the rogue CIA agents. Paige's company was shut down for a while pending the investigation. After the trials, Paige left the board to run the company. She still would have a major say in things, but the board primarily ran it. JJ would often tease her and call her 'Batwoman'.
Paige didn't mind joking along with him since it gave her the idea to open up a side company. A company that her and Nate could run. A company that could put Nate's skills to use and not have him running off again. A fugitive recovery agency. The Bull and Paige could run after Baddies and bring them to justice. JJ would help sometimes, but Paige warned him if he didn't stop dressing up like 'Dog the Bounty Hunter', she would make him work the desk only.
JJ was also able to get help for his PTSD, that caused the voices in his head. No more Demon or Sean to whisper in his ear.The Cajun was finally able to have peace with prayer. He continued to run his exterminating business, with the help of his daughter.
Annie moved in with her father, after finally forgiving him about the death of her aunt. He really was the only family she had left and vice versa. The two started over and became very close. JJ was able to be the loving father that he always wanted to be. Annie even became close with Paige. The two bonded close, with Paige giving her motherly advice as well as shopping tips per JJ. Annie was even Paige's Maid of Honor at her and Nate's small wedding. The wedding was so special, that JJ found someone to call his own, Paige's cousin Meghan. The four were a tight knit family, even though they were not all related, they all had lost their own family and formed this strange little one.So much tragedy brought these four people together, but in the end, the Cajun did the right thing and was able to clear his conscience. This unlikely renegade became a hero.
"Nice wedding Nate, can't believe of all people, you would be the one getting hitched." JJ smiled at him while holding a bottle of water.
"You would've never thought, you would live long enough to see it." Nate grinned and took a sip of his own beer. The two men sat off to the sideline and watched Paige, in her wedding dress, and Annie dance.
"Well you deserve a long vacation now, buddy." JJ raised his beer when he caught Paige's attention. She smiled back at him, but then her smile faded when she thought she caught a glimpse of someone. Nate's own face dropped as he glanced around before making his way towards her. JJ followed close behind, nursing his water bottle.
"Are you alright?" Nate asked as he stood beside her.
"Yes, I just thought I saw...never mind. It was nothing Nate. JJ, why don't you have a father-daughter dance with Annie?" She suggested and took JJ's water from him. She practically pushed him towards his daughter.
"Well, ok..." JJ took his daughter and spun her around a bit. The Steel's looked on happily as they watched the Cajun enjoy himself. Paige caught a glimpse of the man again, this time pointing him out to Nate.
"JJ..." Nate beckoned JJ to come towards him. Nate then pulled out a piece of paper to show JJ a wanted man.
"Nate, man, it's your wedding..." He laughed a bit. Paige sighed.
"He never stops working, not even today....go ahead you two...go get him." She couldn't help but laugh. As she spoke and gave the ok, Nate and JJ took off running. The man noticed them, and he took off as well. Annie noticed the commotion and walked over towards Paige.
"What is going on?" Annie watch her dad and Nate run after the man, almost in a comical way.
"The usual. Bad guys run, our boys chase." She laughed and put her arm around Annie.
"Come on, I have a bouquet to throw.." The two women chuckled and turned to leave the men chasing after the suspect.
