CHAPTER 26

After doing what JJ had been doing for so long, it was difficult to adjust. The Cajun had to change his whole way of living and thinking. His now elderly mother suggested a prayer journal or another animal to confide in. Something to give JJ a chance to take his mind off of things while he wasn't at church or on his new job. JJ couldn't bare to get another dog. Nothing could replace Sasquatch, his old patrol partner. All was not lost though, on one of his first extermination jobs, JJ had to take care of a raccoon's nest. The mother abandoned her babies and he had to crawl up to retrieve them. All of them had perished except for one. That one he took home, nursed back to health, and kept. It was hard to get close to something else, but the baby raccoon reminded him a lot of his brother and he named it Sean. The business wasn't too hard to get a grip on. JJ was a country boy and was used to dealing with wildlife. Even when he was in the department they would call him out on the animal calls. The insect extermination was just a small part of his new job, mostly it involved corralling wildlife out of people's homes and yards.

Slowly Johnny made better choices for his life, and with him getting older, it was for the best, really. For not only his physical being, but his spiritual man. He quit drinking, bar hopping and cursing. He even changed the type of music he listened to, as well as movies he used to watch. JJ spent more time at church and in the community helping others. His mother was proud of her son and supported him as much as she could.

The Cajun had been through a lot, and his journey was far from over, but at least this time he would be doing it the right way. The way it should have been handled in the first place.

It had been almost four months and the Cajun was growing restless. No sign from Marina and the constant looking over his shoulders, was slowly getting to him. He continued to be on speaking terms with Nate and Paige, but the conversations had to remain short, due to them in protective custody. Agent Jefferson would call in from time to time to check on him, as well as help reassure that he was doing the right thing. It took everything the Cajun had not to give in and go on another road trip to hunt down that wench. His friends and family were still in danger. Marina and her few followers were still out there and JJ was the main target. He didnt care what would happen to him, he really just worried about the innocent people around him. His mother, his aunt, Nate, Paige, and his church, The ones he drug selfishly into this mess. So, for their sake, and the sake of his new salvation, he did as Agent Jefferson told him, he waited. It might not have been patiently, but he waited. Patience eventually pulled off, but the whole plan sort of all changed when an unexpected arrival shifted things greatly.
