CHAPTER 33

JJ woke up and walked into the kitchen. He was surprised to see Annie awake this early and still around. He would have bet that she would have ran out. She slammed the phone down when she noticed him round the corner. "Morning." He walked to the fridge to grab the milk.

"Morning." Annie ate her cereal slowly, avoiding eye contact with him. "Who was that?" he asked.

"My aunt, I don't want to talk about it." Johnny knew Rebecca's sister all too well so he didn't question it.

"How did you sleep?" he asked as he poured him a glass of milk. He then placed the half gallon back in the icebox.

"Ok, I guess." she shrugged her shoulders as she picked at her bowl with her spoon. The raccoon dropped out of the ceiling scaring JJ a bit. Even Annie jumped out of her daze. JJ jumped and raised his fists. "Boyyyyyy, I swear!" he cursed and eased up when he saw it was Sean, his raccoon. The raccoon had something in his hands and JJ snatched it from him. It was a block of C4 with a few teeth marks.

"Sean, really?" JJ gave the raccoon a look as he stuffed it in his jeans pocket. The raccoon scurried off of the counter and ran to the living room, making a noise. Annie leaned over to watch the furry creature dig through JJ's bag in the corner. She couldn't help but smile at the cuteness of the furry creature.

JJ just glared at the coon as he drank his glass of milk. The glass was pressed to his lips when it all of a sudden, shattered. JJ's face and floor was sprayed with milk as a bullet had ripped through the glass and embedded into the kitchen wall. He quickly dropped the remains of the shards of glass and ran to Annie. Rounds of bullets followed right behind the Cajun. JJ grabbed Annie and fell to the ground under the table. The chair flipped out from underneath her as it was quickly riddled with bullets.

Annie had a death grip on her phone and was shivering from fear. Milk, cereal, and wood splinters were lodged in both of their hair as JJ examined Annie.

"Annie, stay here and stay low and hidden." He instructed after he made sure she was not hit. JJ grabbed the Glock and shotgun that he had taped under the table and made sure they both were loaded. He then crawled out from underneath the table and made his way towards the living room.

He wanted to get to his bag, but the bullets peppered through the wall and prevented it. The shooting finally stopped, and JJ could hear footsteps coming from his back porch. A male entered through the kitchen and made his way towards the living room. When the male was in sight, JJ raised his shotgun and blasted the man back. He hit the wall and slid down, followed by a trail of blood. Another man came running in through the front door before he could repump the shotgun. JJ waited for the man to pass before he used the gun like a baseball bat and swung at the man's legs. The gun made contact with the man's knees, and he fell. JJ leapt on top of him and began to hit the man with the butt of the shotgun. JJ hit him a couple times before quickly pumping it and shooting the man in the face.

"Annie, go to the back room and lock the door. If anyone but me comes through the door, use the gun in the dresser...you got it?" JJ spoke in a low tone so that only she could hear him. Annie nodded and began to quickly crawl out from under the table with her hands still gripping her phone. She crawled through the kitchen to the living room. Bullets began to whiz by again, barely missing the young woman. All JJ could do was watch desperately and pray she didn't get hit. Annie let out a scream as she crawled as fast as she could. JJ couldn't take it anymore, hearing his daughter's whimpers of fear. He raised his gun and fired in the direction to give her cover fire. JJ made sure to hear the door slam before running to his bag in the corner. He grabbed extra clips and the other handguns inside it. He quickly shoved them in his pockets before crawling to the window.
