KATARA
"I am so tired." I whispered as Max held me against his chest. I wasn't too worried about the coughing up blood. I could vaguely remember it happening before, just like everything else. I sighed.
Jessie had left to go talk to the others about this, and hadn't come back yet.
"Then get some sleep." Max whispered and I looked up at him. He smiled sadly and kissed my forehead. I closed my eyes and nodded. "But first, I need to tell you something." I looked at him again.
"Caldwell said to tell you... that you were right." I scowled. I was right? "Do you have any idea what he is talking about?" slowly, I shook my head, thinking about what it could be. "He said that you would know what he was talking about."
"I mean, I am sure I do..." I said quietly. "But I don't know right now. I don't know what he could be talking about."
"What did you two talk about the last time you met?" he asked. I thought back.
"We talked about how Corrie's death wasn't really my fault." I said. "That it was the men who sent him after Danial and Dell. He said that others would be after me after that. They would want to both kill me... and capture me... but I don't know what that has anything to do with me being right." he sighed and nodded. "Sorry, I can't tell you more." I said and closed my eyes again. He shrugged and stroked my cheek with his thumb.
"It's okay Tara." he said. "Maybe you'll remember later." I nodded and yawned. "Get some sleep. You look exhausted." I was.
I turned on my side and he lay there beside me, his chest to my back, and his hand slowly tracing my arm. I sighed and let myself think of what it could be. What could I be right about? What was it?
And that was when it hit. It hit, as soon as the door opened and Jessie walked back in. The dreams that I had been having lately, they were the answer. The injections that I remembered. I had had the dreams before, but they were just night mares then. This was real. I had told Caldwell about them, a man that I didn't know, and he had told me that I shouldn't worry about them then, that my suspicions... about that really happening, that they were wrong. But now he was telling me that I was right, because I had also said that they weren't over. That was why they wanted me. They wanted to finish what they had started nearly fifteen years ago.
I breathed shakily and swallowed, wishing that I hadn't thought about it, because now... I knew that if they caught me, then they would kill all the people I loved unless I went willingly. That was why, I was making up my mind now, that as soon as the others were asleep, I was running away.
