Jonathan drove toward the house that he had close to the hospital. It was nearly dawn and he was exhausted. He wanted to be home. He wanted to be in bed. He wanted to stop losing people. He wanted, most importantly, for Katara to be safe and not scared all the time. He wanted her to be better and not sick. He wanted her close and to give her all that she wanted and needed.

Some would say that Jonathan loved her, and they'd be right, but not in the way that everyone would think. Katara would have been his sister-in-law, and she was like a sister now, that was all that she would ever be to him. That was all she could ever be. He didn't think he could love his brother's girl anyway. Not in such a way.

And even if he did love her like that...

Max was already winning her heart. She was falling for Max and no matter how hard she was fighting it, she loved him. There was no two ways about it. She loved him, she just didn't want to right now. Not with the way things turned out with Corrie. Not with the things that Taylor put her through. She claimed that she wasn't ready, and maybe she wasn't, but what about that something more that everyone knew she was avoiding?

They all knew that she was hiding something. She was hiding it good, because not even Max could figure it out, and Max could find out anything if he set his mind to it. Jonathan knew that he would set his mind to everything to do with anything with Katara. He was in love with her, just as much as she was in love with him, probably more, and that was saying something.

Jonathan had grown up with Max for most of his life. He had never once, seen the boy in love, but the way that he looked at Katara, when she slept. The way he smiled when she smiled. The way he touched her when she let him, how he held her, so gentle and careful, like he may break her, no matter how tough she was. The way that he listened to her every word and answered so honestly. It was so different. The boy had to be in love. There was no other explanation for it.

Max was in love.

The thing was...

Shouldn't Jonathan be mad that his brother's girl was falling for another guy? Shouldn't he be angry that his best friend was falling in love with his brother's girl?

Jonathan didn't know. He was just happy that both of them were somehow, without knowing that they were, finding a way to make things work between them. They weren't together, but they were as close to it as they could get. It wouldn't be long, before Katara finally gave in, and accepted that she wanted Max. Jonathan thought that it could be close to a matter of days...

"...Jonathan." Jonathan looked over at Jarrod, who was smiling. "You aren't driving back. You are way too distracted. What's going on? What were you so lost in thought about?"

"Katara." he answered before he even thought about it. "And Max. What do you think about them?" Jarrod was quiet a minute. He sighed and Jonathan looked at him fully. Those blue eyes looked so sad as he thought, that Jonathan thought that he might actually start crying, which wasn't good, because Jarrod never cried.

"I think that Katara... is lost right now." he said finally. "I think that if she would just let go of the past, and welcomed the present that she would have a future with Max, but until then, all she is doing, is hurting Max and Max will let her do it, until it's too late. He loves her, and he will never give up on her, but if she doesn't get straitened up, and soon, things will get bad between them, and fast." Jarrod looked at him with sad eyes. "The new kid didn't help with anything either."

"Yeah, she seemed to remember him." Jonathan said. "Sam said something about old childhood friend that helped with when she got really sick a couple of times-"

"That's another thing." Jarrod nodded. "She doesn't remember her past. She doesn't remember her brothers, and half the time, she doesn't remember who Tonnie was. I heard her talking to Max about it. She doesn't remember Tonnie, and maybe that is because she watched him die..." Jarrod sighed. "traumatic experience and all, but it doesn't explain why she doesn't remember before that."

"Sam said she's starting to remember those things too."

"That still doesn't explain anything." Jonathan sighed. Jarrod had a point. "Jordan didn't seem too happy when he found out that she didn't even know who he was, and that Max was the one that she was 'trusting' right now. I don't think that Max was too happy when he found Jordan kissing her either. She surely freaked out when she thought that Max would hate her." Jarrod's phone started ringing. He sighed and picked it up.

Jonathan sighed. It was crazy. She loved Max and he loved her, but all of a sudden, there's that childhood friend, that was obviously more than a friend, even at seven, and she didn't remember him. That had to put a damper on his day. Jonathan knew that it wouldn't make him too happy.

"Time to get back to the hospital. They're letting her go." Jonathan smiled and started the car again. That was good. That was very good.
