CORDELCordel sighed as he packed the last of Katara's stuff in a box. He was at Justin's house and was alone. He wanted to be alone as he did this. It was his sister. She was the only thing he had left from his past and he didn't have her anymore.
No, she wasn't dead, but it wasn't that simple either. It would be like she was dead. She wouldn't be able to see him and he wouldn't be able to see her. When he did see her, it would be on the streets, and he would never get close enough to talk to her. He wouldn't ever have any contact with her.
So that was why he had a plan. He was going to take her stuff to her. He knew that there was no way that he could get her out of there, and he was sure that he would have a guard, so that he couldn't get her out, but at least, they wouldn't kill him. He could take Katara her stuff and talk to her for a few minutes, then he would leave, against both of their will. It would be hard, but it would be better than never seeing her again.
Cordel sighed again and taped up the box. It was useless, they'd just open and search it for weapons and things that could help her get out, but he didn't care. He stood and grabbed the two boxes, then carried them from her room, downstairs and into the living room, where Justin sat. Justin looked at him as he set the boxes on the coffee table. He sat down and almost sat on a couple of pictures.
"What are these?" he asked as he lifted them up. He hadn't seen these since the day that they had been killed. These were pictures that had been in the house. "W-where did you get these?" he asked as he looked through them.
The first one was Tonnie. He was climbing a tree and playing around in it. Katara was playing in the sandbox that they had gotten for her. She'd loved that sandbox. It was hard to get her out, the first time that she ever played in it. She was maybe seven then and Tonnie was fourteen.
The next one was a picture of Cordel. He was laughing at something that Katara had said or done. It was probably the time that she had found herself in a mess I the kitchen. It was probably the day of their mom's his birthday, and she had wanted to get up early and make him breakfast. She had tried so hard that she ended up dropping two pans on the floor and waking the whole house up. Looking at the edge of the picture, there was a small black part where the pan handle was. That was when he was seventeen and she was eight.
The last one was a picture of Tonnie hanging from that same tree that was in the first one, laughing. Cordel was lying on the ground laughing so hard that he was rolling around, but Katara wasn't in this one. She wasn't playing in her sandbox, or playing in the stream beside the house. Actually, this was the only picture that showed a view from the house.
That was when he got it.
"This picture was never taken." he said looking up at Justin.
"That's because she drew it." Justin answered. Cordel looked at it again. She had drawn this? It looked just like a real photograph. "I watched her draw that picture, no other picture to guide her, and she told me the story, right from memory. It was amazing..." Justin sighed and looked at the picture again. "She said that Tonnie found her in the closet."
"He did." Cordel smiled some. That was a fun night. They had found her after an hour of looking for her, and she was nearly hysterical. She hadn't been sure if she was supposed to be laughing or crying. In the end, she had ended up crying and they took her out to see a movie and get some ice cream. One of the best days that they had ever had with each other. They always seemed to have the most fun when they were all together. It had always been that way, but it wouldn't happen anymore. He may not get to see her again after today. He would take this stuff and then he would have to leave and then it would probably be the last time...
"Anyway." he said before he could start thinking too much on it. "You ready?"
"You sure you want to do this?" he asked. Cordel looked at him like he was stupid. "Right." he said and stood. "Let's go." he picked up one of the boxes and took the pictures, while Cordel stood and grabbed the other boxes.
